Expectations Of Lower Interest Rates Dented

"Futures markets had been pricing as many as three rate cuts before the August decision and his comments are likely to dent further expectations of more borrowing cuts.

Mr Lambert also said that the MPC would become concerned if high oil prices started causing second-round effects.

"Our concern would be if there were signs that the immediate impact of higher oil prices started to wash through more broadly into the economy, into wage settlement or into price setting generally."
