Whats The Price : Earnings Multiple In Your Area?

Upmystreet has added some cool new data which shows the gross weekly earnings average for particular areas, based on the goverments figures.

According to this the ave salary in Lambeth is £483.40, and the ave property price in Lambeth is £261,662 (http://www.upmystreet.com/property/prices/all/l/lambeth.html).

£483 pw is about 25k pa giving a multiple of 10.4 !!!!

Actually, it's not the average but the median -- which is one kind of average, but it's normally the mean that's referred to when just talking about "the average". And the average house price they're using really is the mean, and you can't get a meaningful ratio by comparing the median earnings to the mean house prices.

multiple = 10.45
