mercenarul
At present, for property investors to break even on rental properties, rents would need to almost double to match the interest costs on borrowing, or house prices fall up to 50 per cent. "It is quite a dangerous time to take a highly geared position (borrow heavily) in the housing investment market," he said. "The numbers don't stack up (on rental property), end of story," Alexander said and some investors were already selling out. Brings a new meaning to low yeilds. Intrest rates have gone up more than the UK but it does not seem to have had much effect on house prices. Dont buy into the immigration supporting prices theory either. NZ has been building new houses faster than ever before. Where my parents live, most of the farmers have given up on sheep and are just "growing houses" instead. I love it! Up here north of the border farmers have been selling aff "Building Plots" for at least a decade, pocketing about 30K a pop in the process. I know one farmer who has sold nine plots in four years and he still gets subsidy money, etc., for his "farm activities".
