When in history did everybody lie in bed as long as they liked, then get up to do an exciting job with all their best friends just down the road? Read Dickens or Lark Rise to Candleford and note that life never was, and never will be, easy. However, no-one's life need be as depressing as your little summary. I think a lot of other people can as well, there's a sense of something taut in the air. It is making me very nervous. But I have another feeling as well. I think we could see the start of the rise of the European East and the Middle East (if it doesn't collapse into war, which could be rather likely). I've just spent time in Beirut and you really notice how different the people are over there -- there's a dynamism to them that I just don't see in Western Europe anymore anywhere. And the strangest thing is that, despite all the political problems, despite the armed police and soldiers on the streets, the place feels more free than any Western European city. It felt like a place where people live and work, rather than a monolithic stone mausoleum, which so many British cities feel like now ... like cemeteries to a civilisation that is dead and gone. And when I travel, I meet so many young Eastern Europeans with fire and drive, who want to get things done, and who like being busy at work, who communicate, and I think ... these people, they have something we lost decades ago. I think the one thing that is for sure is that this is the first significant downturn/depression in which Internet forums / 24 hour news exists - which gives a non stop platform for extreme views and hot air - which I agree, in turn, can influence people and markets and make things worse... But we are talking about the human race here which since year dot has been a survival of the fittest / smartest...... Some things may be over: jobs for life, money for nothing, final salary state pensions in Greece for retiring at 50 and working half days in a shop [quoting a stereotype, happy to be shot down]... But really that shouldn't be a bad thing - we have got rich off the back of cheap labour in India and the far east making all our stuff for too long.... But life will go on, and those that are able to adapt, be progressive thinking and work hard will be fine - and don't bet against this forum sprouting up again in 2025 when the next credit fuelled house price bubble takes off. Britain and europes real worry should come when china / India / Russia and the rest fully embrace real democracy / rule of law with respect to property ownership and intellectual capital / lack of censorship of media and Internet - that is the one true competitive advantage we have and the reason money flows back here. Moan about politicians all you like but underestimate it at your peril [yes I know the daily express is an advert for channel 5/ house prices / al fayed before anyone picks me up on that].... I even fell for it last time, took loads of cash out the afternoon before RBS was bailed out and bought some supplies. Thought I was "prepared" and perhaps even "enlightened". I think they are right). I believed all the stuff about house prices and how the great crash was really happening but the VI's were covering it up. All I know now is that if I had joined the party, I would be in a much nicer house than I am currently in and I have to front up the the fact that my stance means that we dont really have a home for our child and the one on its way. I have to ask permission from some ****** to put pictures up on my childs bedroom wall, FFS. I am a company director running a decent company having to ask permission for that from some twit how took a punt 5 years ago. Sorry guys, this site is seriously bad for your wealth and health and sitting around a computer slagging off the world for being "sheeple" or thinking that you are better informed than economists/bankers/politicians is just delusional. You may be right but I dont think you are better informed. Anyway, back on to thread. The OP is nuts, he needs help. Depression is an illness, not a crystal ball. The thing about made up money is that it doesnt exist. The sun still comes up, crops still grown and fish still swim. There might be less range rover sports around but I dont care. I can never park my ******ing car on the high street now, so more space will be grand. Very sensible post - did you come back just to check in on the other loons in the asylum? lol I am with you on what you say, I doubt there will be any big crash as such, I think it will take a long time, I just think it only stands to reason that house prices should be cheaper for many reasons.
