Duke Street Video Is Back Up!

Recommended Posts

Who remembers this housing related classic?

"A protest song wilf & percy wrote about the state of duke street in hartlepool.

During the artificially created housing bubble - about 2006 to 2007 ish - Wilf's nephew was looking for a house to buy in Hartlepool. Sadly, all he could afford was the house next door to The Odd Cod. Which was up for sale for £45k !!!

The Odd Cod might be Wilf & Percy's favourite chip shop, but it was located it what could only be described, back then at least, as the ripped backsides of Hartlepool.

Now, thankfully, we have seen 20%-30% nominal falls in Hartlepool & some of these areas have been tidied up a bit, but this song stands as a testament to the stupidity of people & their crazy ability to see dungholes & mistake them for 'little palaces'".

Yep, i remember that from a few years ago.

Seems like property prices on this dump of an estate have continued to defy gravity.

e.g. last property to be sold on the road - 3 Duke Street - sold for £96k in November 2010 (previously sold for £38k in 2007).

Becoming quite the gentrified area.

To be fair, they did knock some of the houses down & build new. Number 3 might be one of the new builds.
