£2.50 Fee- Dartford Crossing Consultation

Recommended Posts

I heard on the local news that there is a consultation to raise the Dartford crossing fee to £2.50. Not sure if that is each way but seems a little high!

When the ctossing was built we were promised it would go toll free once it was paid for. That position was reached some years ago but Labour reneged on the promise. The Coalition is continuing with that betrayal. Politicians. B'stards.

Not that long ago it went from £1.00 to £1.50 but became free after 10pm. It's funny when you get there at 2 mins to 10 and there is a row of cars waiting for it to become free. When they made the change they claimed it was revenue neutral, which I doubt, but in any case would be a lot cheaper to administer not paying toll collectors to work through the night.

Apart from the points made above, the cost calculation never seems to include the wasted time/fuel/lost business/damage to the environment etc caused by the tailbacks the tolls cause, which often reach 10 miles or more.
