Campaigners say that the “land banks” are enough for more than two years of house building, meaning there is no need to water down current planning laws. No because very few would be able to afford to buy them or secure the large amount of credit required to borrow to buy them that is before they have even started to save for the deposit.....that is if they have a above minimum wage job to start with. I was told a while back that you can apply for planning permission for land you don't even own. Does anyone know if this is (or was) true? Does anyone know if this is (or was) true? Yes. It is true. But you need to notify the owner that you are applying and confirm on the application form that you have done so. Any idea if the new rules would bring self build within reach of the average punter? Perhaps with the absence of government restrictions, house builders wouldn't be able to monopolise so much land.
