Wtf? Five Arrests In 'slavery' Raid At Greenacre Travellers' Site

Recommended Posts

Twenty-four men suspected of being held against their will have been found during a raid at a travellers' site.

Four men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of committing slavery offences in the raid at Greenacre travellers' site, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, on Sunday.

The men, who are English, Polish and Romanian, were found in "filthy and cramped" conditions, police said.

Detectives believe some may have been there for up to 15 years.

But in fact some people did leave and told us what was going on and when we looked back since 2008 we were aware of 28 people who had made similar accusations."

So 28 people told the police about this 3 years ago and they only just thought about taking a look!!

Love this

Because of the number of victims and suspects and the size of the site, we needed the assistance of many officers from specialist units today. We are aware the operation has caused a lot of disruption to the other residents of the site and we thank them for their co-operation and understanding

I'm sure the local constabulary put out press releases like this when they kick a door in a residential street.

I got picked up hitch-hiking by some irish traveller road gang type many years ago, family in a 4x4, i had to sit in the back half of the estate boot behind the cage they kept their dogs in, shouting through the kids and dogs the dad asked me if i wanted to come and work for him. I was on my way to Holland for seasonal work so i could have done but with a plan in mind i said no and i've always regretted missing the chance of a proper insight into traveller life. That's one regret i won't be having again

'A Time from the World' by Rowena Farre gives a rather interesting view of life amongst gypsies 40 years or so ago.

4. They clear the community of unwanted and unsightly scrap, clearing the place up like scavenger beetles.

:o

I hope that was tongue in cheek !!

it was claimed more than 100 people have been kept as slaves in travellers' camps across the UK.

His "captors" apparently even took him to work in Denmark, Norway and Holland. Mickael, a French-born chef whose marriage broke up, claimed the "masters" once beat him so hard they broke his ribs.
