I await this evenings "entertainment" with interest on iPlayer. Last weeks was an embarrassement. Its bad enough having Barrowman in it, but it turning into "The Joy Of Gay Sex" was almost the last straw,

Fraid to say I only watch now to see how bad it can get, and I am rarely disapointed!!

Just had last night's on in the background (I'm a lapviewer), it was quite good when it started out as the Doctor Who spin-off. It's turgid now. This whole business of having gay sex in our faces is a bit much really. BBC values, let's celebrate. All part of the process to normalise all behaviour, whether it is or not.

I really cannot get into this hocus pocus Dr Who stuff. However if we get some gay stuff with that hot ginger burd and a pal I may change my mind.

I do find ginger burds like Asian burds. Either stunning or rank as a pile of poop. Not much in between.

Doctor Who is just about holding it together, thanks to the excellent Matt Smith and some good intriguing story arcs, though I doubt the whole "River Song" saga will live up to expectations.

Torchwood is Welsh and gay, whilst I could tolerate the gay agenda, the storylines would have to be damned good and the fat welsh bird as super hero is just laughable.

Glad I have never seen this show.

Although I sometimes like sex in my face, I don't lke it in my Sci-Fi. I nearly spewed up the last episode with that Barrowman creature slopping his lips all over the joint. Ugh! Vile!

Exactly, unless the sci-fi is extremely good, or at least the sex relevant to the plot, however last weeks sex was entirely superfluous.

What on earth is a "burd"?

Do you mean bird?

Noun. 1. A female. Use can be taken as offensive. E.g."Did you see that bird at the back of the bus!"

2. A girlfiend, when used in conjunction with a possessive pronoun, such as my bird.

If you do, then say so!

Never liked Torchwood BTW. Children of Earth was probably the high point.

I have to say, last night was a relief, if only in that it wasnt as unremittingly awful as the week before. Still, that would have been hard, no pun intended.

While I'm in agreement about both the Welsh and gay things, I was expecting more considered, intellectual analysis on here as to why last week's ep was such a low point in TV. I've been on other forums where people have written essays as to why last weeks ep was so crap. To precis, boring, bad plotting, bad pacing, bad characterization, wasted opportunities, no consequences of actions, trite ending.... yadda yadda... oh, and Welsh and gay.

On these 'other forums' people have also pointed out that TV studios no longer make space opera, whereas a decade ago there would have been about half a dozen shows in production. A sad reflection of peoples mental horizons and a complete cop out with regards to serving the sci fi nerd demographic.

Totally agree - the self indulgent, self rightious leftist pulpit thumping we've come to expect from the BBC.

I watch TV to be entertained - not preached at...

I say let the BBC go commercial and pull the license fee - it'd be dead within a year..

When us Jocks say the word ini relation to the ladies - it usually sounds more ilke 'Burd'. So some people type it that way to give over the impression. Try saying the word to yourself in a Scottish accent. You will see what I mean. :D

Maybe not grammatically correct but I think it reads & sounds better

I actually think Torchwood is very good, but the sex part was too much.

I also find Dr Who is getting worse and worse. Last weeks was about Hitler, but it was kind of irrelevant to the plot. Dr who should produce longer shows to get more of a story, so it spans two or three weeks imo.

Only watched a few episodes so far, but I'm wondering whether to bother watching the rest of it.

I gave up about episode three. I used to like Torchwood and the week long special they did was superb. It has died big time, even deleted the recording timers because I know I won't bother watching them ever. I'd given up before the gay sex episode though saw the newspaper story about it.

Alos for the first time in ages I gave up an episode of Dr Who, the series opener was just silly. I'll still try the rest though, it's not "Done a Torchwood" yet.

On the plus side, as the good Dr might say, "Don't you think he's looking old?"

Which means there's not much more mileage left in the eternal youth plot which is central to his character ergo not much more mileage left in him?

Same problem they had with Data in Star Trek. As a Positronic Android he was ageing visibly.

Just to add that if they chosen to have the fat welsh "burd" have an extended sex scene with her fat welsh husband, it would have been equally annoying. But they wouldn't do that as it would be irrelevant, which is my point about Barrowmans scene's. We know the actor is gay in real life and his character his "bi." We don't need to be constantly reminded in a "Barrowman is gay, how cool is that" kind of way.

To you maybe, but I understand there are whole websites out there which prove that some people are interested in watching this sort of thing. Besides, generally there isnt much dialogue in such short films (to sell to a wider audience, like Nintendo Wii games, I'd imagine), so them being Welsh is also equally irrelevant.

Maybe TMT can tell us more?

The point is it has to be relevant and why is it only Barrowman that is allowed a sex life in the episodes.

There is perhaps a gap in the market for "sex fi." or so-fi. Wasn't there an episode of Torchwood where one of the team kept part of a cyberman because it was originally her boyfriend? That was in the days when it wasn't that bad.

I was referring to fat Welsh porn rather than gay porn, but, as you say, the principle is the same. One was unwelcome and unnecessary. The other would have been if they'd have had the nerve to show it.

Didn't the CIA guy Rex have quite a bit of nookie with his doctor friend in the early episodes before she got fried? And he's technically dead so that was necrophilia - shouldn't people be complaining about that more?

(not that I'm defending the new series - it's really poor. But it jumped the shark much earlier than when all the bum sex started IMO)

The butler ?Ianto kept his girlfriend, there was also the ELO-themed Who episode where the lead was in a relationship with a paving slab
