Realistbear
http://news.sky.com/home/uk-news/article/16056568 Net Migration To UK Shoots Up More Than 20% 45 Comments 11:25am UK, Thursday August 25, 2011 Net migration to the UK rose by more than 20% last year to 239,000, going against the Government's pledge to reduce it.../ three out of four of the 228,000 who came to study were from outside the EU . The statistics also reveal the number of people coming for a definite job was at its lowest in over six years Not surprising as housing benefits are good here. Probably their way of trying to keep Treausure Island's property market up.
exiges
"A record number of people have been granted settlement in the UK in the last year, partly due to the number of people being allowed to stay as a backlog of asylum cases were cleared." Executive Sadman
three out of four of the 228,000 who came to study were from outside the EU. So the Tory line that being 'tough on non-EU entrants' has meant more EU entrants is BS then.
@contradevian
So why isn't the economy growing then? It couldn't possibly be with every immigrant we actually get poorer? The Government should be awash with cash from all these extra tax payers!
billybong
So Tory and LibDem promises on this are made of straw just like Labour's promises.

The Government should be awash with cash from all these extra tax payers! That was certainly the case put by the CBI when the Tories were about to do something useful about stopping the flood. IMO mass immigration is an abuse of our human rights. The more the government keep pusing the immigration line the more they will fuel rage and the recent riots were probably just a foretaste of what is to come whden the pensioners get riled. snowflux
Apparently, immigration has remained pretty much constant; the net increase is actually mostly due to a sharp drop in emigration. It would be interesting to know the reasons for this. Perhaps oldies unable/unwilling to sell up and retire to the costas any more?
stormymonday_2011
If residence in the UK is so attractive then we should be selling it not giving it away free. The price signals to the market are clearly not right

I voted UKIP at the last local elections and will probably do so at the GE that may come sooner rather than later. Its going to take a European Spring to change things on Treasure Island. It would be interesting to know the reasons for this. Perhaps oldies unable/unwilling to sell up and retire to the costas any more? I'll speculate two reasons: 1. they can't afford to any more - partly because houses are not selling, or selling for less, but mostly because the pound is worth about half what it was in the currencies of many likely destination countries (Aus, NZ, Europe) 2. to some extent, it is harder to get into some countries now that you need to get visas for - the UK is not the only place trying to clamp down on immigration during tougher economic times, just one of the less good at it. I don't imagine for an instant it is because less people want to leave, unless of course everyone that ones to leave has already left.

The riots had no credible link to immigration - and a pensioner riot (with Zimmer frames and Worthers' originals) is almost comical. For a really big riot, there needs to be a political dimension that not only liberates the stupid to vent their general undirected frustration - but also encourages the rank and file to justify such behaviour - because their blinkered by their 'cause'. We've had riots for socialism v capitalism; we've had race riots; we've had riots against a dictator (though we see those as justified)... I can't see a cause big enough to provoke riots beyond the scale of those we've already seen... and those fizzled out because they had no (even alleged) purpose. The only two mass riots (revolutuions) I can recall in this country were both caused by a situation where the governing power was seen to no longer represent the interests of the people and yet persisted in the same behaviour. Charles 1 lost his head and James 2 was deposed and sent away. The first mass civil riot had a good leader and the second had to import a Dutchman. Not sure what a third mass riot would look like or who would lead it.

And if there was proportional representation, and therefore less of a "wasted vote", you'd probably find a whole lot more people would vote that way too. There wasnt a UKIP candidate at the local elections, so I spoilt my ballot paper. Uncontrolled immigration will remain a problem until we leave the EU, and redraft our human rights. That will mean that people will not be able to apply to come here just because of family connections. It is interesting to see the acknowledgement of a quiet amnesty for illegal immigrants as well. That isnt going to discourage people from coming here illegally is it? I wonder what the true immigration figures are including illegals?

Regarding the OP - I really wouldn't be all that trusting of any migration or census figures at this juncture, for obvious reasons.

Werthers 'originals' (a sweetener) is an Elitist piss-take of what the illuminati/Masons call "The Profane" (When it rains - It pours! ) Check out Goetha writings 'Gotz von Berlichingen' & 'WERTHER' In the summary you will find key words "CHANGE" & he compares himself to a "Chamelion" Werther = finding a point of repose amongst Chaotic movement Hint - The illuminati 'bloomed' from the same area The Masons love the stuff cos it compares Nature to Plays - ie their Shakespearean puppetry-manipulation of our present World A marionette is a puppet controlled from above using wires or strings depending on regional variations. A marionette's puppeteer is called a manipulator Can you 'spot' (ref intended to a certain 'dog' on kids TV) Maid (the ones who wear 'Aprons' at Temple meetings) Marion-ette Thunder-birds was an advanced form of 'Marionetting' - you often see Masons on here wittily referring to 'threads'! That's why Masonic GODF "Orient of France" keep going on about "Let them eat cake" Marie-Antoinette Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna (A 'John' connection - ie severed head on platter/Guillotine) M.A. Ma-rionette MA-son The Masons started the Revolution and pulled the strings of the French 'peoples' The freemasons did it as revenge for King Philippe (veiled = The POPE?) killing Grand Master Templar 'demolay' in Paris and kicking their bent, string pulling, organisation out of France (when the Templars got too big for their boots and threatened Kingdoms) in Paris and Demolay was burnt at the stake on the same island (exact centre/Origin of Paris) that Diana was killed (in a tunnel beneath)! For instance, there are 13 major joints in your body. There are 13 lunar cycles in a solar year, and the moon travels 13 degrees across the sky every day. Six circles placed around a seventh central circle is a model of geometric efficiency and perfection in the second dimension that has been known to mathematicians for ages. But this same configuration in three dimensions consists of 12 spheres arranged around one central sphere, making 13 in all - the most compact three-dimensional arrangement recurrent in nature. A commentator writing about the Aztec calendar once said that, "Thirteen is a basic structural unit in nature. It means the attracting center around which elements focus and collect." Is this, then, the reason for Christ's + 12 disciples, King Arthur's + 12 knights, or the 12 major constellations in relation to our sun? Xurbia
I think Britons should look at the advantages: 1. The unemployed will have more people to chat with down at the job centre. 2. You don't have to go on holiday to enjoy a vibrant cultural exchange. 3. You may learn new skills. e.g. how to kill with a machete, spear throwing and how to inflate your benefit's cheque. 4. School translators have more work. 5. You can watch immigration lawyers get bumper pay packets and ride out the recession in style. 6. The NHS will have more work. Why is that such a bad thing. Great.................init?
Democorruptcy
The number of people applying for asylum also fell in 2010, but has started to rise again this year with applications between April and June up 9% on the same quarter last year. It will be much higher than 20% this year. The benefit floodgates have been opened. Migrants will be able to receive the benefits because restrictions on eligibility – introduced through a scheme introduced by the European Union seven years ago - are due to be abolished in May. Under EU law all restrictions on citizens of new member states must end after a seven-year “transitional” period. Ministers conceded last night they are powerless to prevent the changes because Britain needed to maintain “our national and international obligations”. The three benefits combined could be worth up to £250 a week, per person, The Times reported. The disclosures will lead to concerns that a fresh wave of migrants will embark on "benefit tourism" placing an even greater strain on public finances. Officials at the Department of Work and Pensions have pledged to be vigilant against fraud and promised to crack down on abusers. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/8358500/New-Eastern-European-benefit-tourism-fears-after-migrant-safeguards-scrapped.html
