okaycuckoo
Wow. Glad to hear pilot OK. Was it the female one? Just saw them yesterday. Magnificent, especially the palm tree manouevre. They flew in formation over my house a couple of hours ago, on their way to the show.
'Bart'
Good to hear that the pilot is OK. Aren't they running out of planes? Are those aircraft quite old and not made any more. Saw the Red Arrows many years ago at RAF Finningley and it was gob smacking.
monks
Saw them last Monday in Whitby and they were stunning. One of the few occasions I actually could feel myelf becoming proud of being British. Don't know why they don't just send these lot over to do a display before any future invasion - no-one would dare take off after watching one of their trademark routines Hope all pilots are safe

Redcellar
I saw them fly over a week ago. Not even doing a display but still in formation and incredibly low through our valley. Amazing skill and concentration. It does make you proud to see them fly like that. Best in the world in my opinion. I hope the pilot is OK. I would like a happy ending. inflating
Some reports say it was Red Four that came down, some tweets and one or two news sources saying the pilot ejected and is safe http://thelincolnite.co.uk/2011/08/red-arrow-crashes-during-air-festival/ Seen the Red Arrows loads of times, other countries have their display teams too but the RAs tend to out-perform the rest worldwide

The US have a team of F16s but they are shit compared to the red arrows. Saw them both at a mildenhall airshow a few years ago.

yellerkat
Wail says pilot killed: Tragedy as Red Arrows pilot is killed after plane crashes into field seconds after festival air display http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2028228/Red-Arrows-pilot-killed-crash-near-Bournemouth-Airport-festival-display.html' rel="external nofollow">An RAF Red Arrows pilot was killed today when an aerobatic display plane crashed after performing at an air show in Bournemouth. It's understood that the BBC was asked to stop filming after one of the aircraft issued a Mayday call at 1.50pm and plunged into the ground by a river that runs through the village of Throop. The Red Arrows were performing at the Bournemouth Air Festival when tragedy struck. One eyewitness, Laura Goodwin, told Sky News that the accident happened just after the team had completed its display. She said: 'One plane went one way, one went the other and didn't come back.' redwine
I believe that they should stop these "flying displays" because one day and i hope that it never happens A high speed jet fighter will crash into the public causing lots of deaths! That's happened, in 2002 in Ukraine 78 were killed at a free air show http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/2155479.stm At airshows that I've been to at seaside towns, they usually do the most risky moves over the sea, away from crowds

The are very strict rules about where the plans can fly. They can't fly over the crowd or in anyway that would put the crowd in danger. You would probably be more at risk watching motor racing. Bruce Banner
Very sad and tragic. I wonder why it happened. He put out a Mayday so presumably it was some sort of aircraft failure. We'll have to wait for the Military AAIB report for the exact cause.
