It seems they are planning a huge march for September the 15th, the day when some of the illegal gypsies are finally evicted. They want to stop the evictions.

It seems they value the rights of crimnals and those who flout the law more than those of innocent towns people who face torrents of violence and abuse.

This makes me angry beyond belief.

Ethnic cleansing is not a nice thing.

Whilst I agree your words, I would observe that these people are not being evicted because of their ethnicity (those gypsies living legally at this site are not being evicted).

They are being evicted because they have systematically broken a number of laws (none of which laws have any ethnic content) by living there. Laws which no one else in the country would expect to be able to get away with breaking.

But also laws which shouldn't be there.

Here's good expert opinion on the recent proposals for criminalising squatting - it's an interesting read because squatting is often about protest, including homeless servicemen after the war - the conclusion is that this is aimed at gypsies and travellers:

Beneath the headlines about Guy Ritchie being inconvenienced by squatters and about distressed (but wholly illusory) homeowners are proposals which will have a damaging effect on a vulnerable and disadvantaged community and a chilling impact on protests by occupation. All this for the ostensible purpose of saving land owners a couple of weeks in time and the limited cost of court proceedings.

You mightn't like travellers, but the rich hate your freedoms!

Yes. They have broken the law and they allowed to get away with it and im not just talking about planning laws. They know they are wrong which is why they are playing the race card. This is not a racial issue it's a legal one.

The poor people whos houses back onto the camp are living in hell. They can't sell their homes, they can't move. They're stuck and suffer almost continous abuse. It's so bad that postman or dustmen won't enter the camp due to physical attacks.

A friend of mine was attacked by a resident of this camp a couple of years ago his jaw was broken after being punched with knuckle dusters. The attacker then went on to assault a commuter walking home from the station. Both were totally random.

Who's human rights are more important?

Whilst your opinions on whether squatting and trespass laws are specifically racist against gypsies may or may not hold water (I cant comment), that isnt why they are being evicted in this caase. One of the first points made on the website first referenced by pent-up was that they own the land. The main laws they seem to have broken (and have broken in a number of other cases round here*) are planning laws.

*The area for a number of miles around this camp is subject to several camps a year appearing. Many are squats/trespasses, but at least one other is also a breach of planning laws, where they bought the land then moved in, concreted it over and built a camp over the course of a bank holiday weekend in order best to ensure that the authorities could not intervene.

Don't care about racism, one way or or t'other. I do remember sieges and running battles with travellers in the village I grew up in - once got chased by them in a van - and I understand the contempt they show for the locals.

My point is that the squatter law is a hammer to crack a nut, and what's really going on is a rounding up of freedoms - the central authority can now interfere where it had no business before over centuries of history. So I suppose I do call racism - by socialists against the human race.

Irrelevant. Vote for a party which would repeal them then, or stand for election yourself.

Nope.

Wrong is wrong.

Wrong will remain wrong no matter who votes for it, where they do it or why. Wrong will remain wrong even if there is a process to make it eventually right.

And of course I wouldn't dream of voting as vioting is asking someone to steal on your behalf, which is evil.

Let me guess, none of the sympathizers live anywhere near Dale Farm.

Yep, that is 100% certain because if they did they would known the trouble that majority of those on that camp cause.

Here's an interesting letter printed in the local paper from the leader of Basildon council.

UN was wrong over Dale Farm eviction

Professor Racquel Rolnik, the UN’s special rapporteur on housing, needs correcting on several key points about the proposed site clearance at Dale Farm (Aug 8) Over the past decade, Basildon Council has made every effort to resolve this dispute through negotiation with the travellers and has repeatedly made offers to rehouse those who will be affected by the clearance.

Unfortunately, no travellers at Dale Farm have so far opted to accept the council’s offers of help Prof Rolnik talks of a “grave breach of human rights” at Dale Farm. The reality is that the site clearance is a planning dispute, not a comment on anyone’s lifestyle or ethnicity.

Dale Farm has been illegally developed on green belt land. By doing this and failing to comply with enforcement notices, the travellers have broken the law.

We are fully aware of our duties and we will carry them out in accordance with the law. The traveller community will be treated the same way as any other citizen.

Basildon Council is taking this action with great reluctance because we have a duty to see the law is upheld. That is also what I believe the majority of the local people who we serve expect us to do.

I would be more than happy to offer Prof Rolnik a detailed account of the events which led us to this point.

Tony Ball

Leader, Basildon Council

Why, can those camped at Dale farm trace their roots back hundreds of years to the surrounding areas?

No?

Oh.

So it can't be that then can it, f wit.

Ha, no they can't! In fact the majority are Irish. If I remenbrr rightly there were several non Irish traveller families living there original, I'm not sure whether legally or illegally but when the Irish arrived en mass, something like 10 years ago, the original families were pushed out by the Irish ones. There used to be a lot od trouble between the two groups.

The argument that they have nowhere to go is also total rubbish. As the Basildon council leader says, they then down offers to be rehoused, they also turned down offers of legal sites elsewhere in the county, some of which remain unoccupied.

Make no mistake these are not poor people. They have money. Where they get it from i don't know but one lady recently in court to appeal against her eviction had some months previously bought a 3 bed detached house nearby for £200,000 cash. Yet she still recieves legal add!

Some people say that an Irish traveller would sooner have a stolen shilling than an honestly earned pound, although obviously I wouldn't say that myself.

I have dealt with travellers myself for lots of years as they come in to buy the old scrap cars that I sometimes take in P/ex.Of course they vary to an extent. But you watch them like hawks while they are around. They will nick literally anything that isn't fixed securely down.

I don't actually dislike them on a personal level but saying they are not thieves, almost to a man,is deceiving yourself.

We have a pair known as "The Two Patricks" and the elder one speeds his words up to such an extent when you are getting near a deal that they all run into one and become completely unitelligible. But he has weighed me out four grand for a car in used notes so they can't be all bad.
