better hope a skinny person family is looking to buy around that area! :D

The sad thing is someone will proabaly buy it seeing the potental of opening up the areas, and knock the wall back out again, creating a nice big bathroom/second bedroom!

Suddenly the section of the building code here which defines what you can and cannot call a bedroom makes sense. From memory it has to be an area which can be made private using doors or ceiling-height screens, minimum 75 sq ft, containing at least one area 7'6" x 7'6" x 6' high.

A survey would pick up on anything like that wouldn't it?

Sure does. The 3 bedroom house or flat suddenly becomes 2 bedrooms plus study :D .

("here" in my first post = Canberra, Australia.)

I've been on the web since 1998 ..what I'm getting at is, I'm not sure of the date but I've viewed houses via Home Sales Network in Burnley on my PC. And you could pick up houses for refurbishment for around 2 to 4K honest. I'm not saying it is back as far as 1998, but that is the farthest back it could possibly have been.

Hapton incidently is a little village outside Burnley, the houses I mentioned at 2/4K were in Burnley proper, grim ole that it is

OH grew up in Hapton, he has family there and in Padiham still. The property boom only really took off in that area about 12-18 months ago, it's still happening as we speak. Must be one of the last areas in the UK to have it.
