The Death Of The Door To Door Home Improvement Salesman

Recommended Posts

I've just had a knock at my front door salesman.

'obviously you own your property'

'what gives you that impression?'

'a lot up the street are rented, we thought these ones down here were more vendor occupied'

' there is no way I can afford my own property'

And then they were off, must have been trying to sell some home improvement stuff. What with the massive increase on estates like mine of rental properties, they are not going to find many home owners who may want to do up thier houses!

Unless they're touting for business paid for by the numerous government grants on offer to people who own their own house, yet ironically are unemployed and on benefits. I'm talking central heating, double glazing and loft insulation initiatives etc. I remember getting junk mail posted my door in the past for these types of things.

Th latest craze is solar panel fitting. I read the industry has boomed to over 2000 companies now. Rogue ones will fit panels even on shaded parts of the roof just to get the sales, and returns on investment are well off the advertised percentages.

What they need to do is just do a houseprice.co.uk search of the street and target homes. Any property that doesn't register means it hasn't been sold prior to the year 2000.It potentially has lot of equity and therefore is a piggy bank. It is ripe for a home equity improvement loan! As these smug homeowners know, the risk is low as house prices only go up....and adding solar panels will add £xxxs to the property value.

Perhaps I should sell that idea on to a MEW comapany!

When I saw the title of this thread I thought somebody had seccumbed to a perfectly natural urge to strangle one of them.

Watch out for the solar panel and insulation companies. At the moment there are some real shysters in that buisness. A neighbour of mine worked for one of them and was badly ripped off.
