China And Paper Money.

Recommended Posts

After coming back from a holiday in Guangzhou for the second time in 5 years, and I am amazed how hard it was to come across coins this time around. It is all paper over there now. People complain about the inflation especially from food prices.

I can understand how expensive it would be to supply the metal for coins for 1+ billion people!

1 GBP = 10.5 Yuan

Heres just an idea of the denominations:

100 Yuan note (1000 yuan/month for a factory worker, 5000 yuan/month for a policeman)

50 Yuan note

10 Yuan note (the price of a short taxi journey, 21 yaun for a McDonalds breakfast)

5 Yuan note (the price of about 4 AA batteries)

1 Yuan note (price of a bottle of mineral water is 1 yuan, about 10p)

0.5 Yuan note

0.25 Yuan note

I only have a couple of 1 yuan and 0.5 yuan coins.

Imagine what it would be like here without electronic money!
