Iran / China Talk About Bartering For Oil!

Recommended Posts

Tehran and Beijing are in talks about using a barter system to exchange Iranian oil for Chinese goods and services, as US financial sanctions have blocked China from paying at least $20bn for oil imports.

The US sanctions against Iran, which make it extremely difficult to conduct dollar-denominated business, mean that China could owe the oil-rich nation as much as $30bn, according to people familiar with the problem.

I wonder if the Iranians want $20bn of Chinese products in exchange? Perhaps they could set up Apple stores?

Old news, the deal in 2009 was that China would upgrade all of the decaying Iranian oil infrastructure to enable it to pump more oil, in exchange for a few years worth of their oil.

China does a lot of these things in Central Asia.

The tunnel of doom for example

It was built by the Iranians as a gift, China are rebuilding the tunnel for free in exchange for Central Asian gas.
