gasket37
i'm not really interested in what that morbidly obese hypocrite has to say however there is an excellent series on radio 4 about the russian revolution that is well worth a listen, presented by michael sixsmith. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b012hjc8/Russia_The_Wild_East_Series_2_Omnibus_Episode_1/ i never knew that lenin massacred the Kronstadt sailors in 1921 (they were instrumental in the original february 1917 revolution). so on balance i'd take capitalism every time, thanks. there is precious little on the main forum about house prices these days so why should this thread be moved? now if you were to mention gold however... What's the difference between capitalism and socialism? Capitalism is the exploitation of man by man. Under socialism, it is the other way around. Yep, regardless of what many think about the director, in this movie he's playing into the hands of HPC (loads of bank&short termism bashing, etc.). Yes, I caught a few episodes of that driving back from work. There was an audio of Lenin ordering people to hang wealthy peasants because they were ... wealthy peasants. Relentless terror, more vile even than Stalin. I ended up wondering why someone didn't just stab him in the face. Anger is not good while driving! Ned Coates
Mr Moore does good work I believe. This shows one poor couple having to give their home to the banksters and get a few dollars for cleaning it. Anybody know who financed the russian revolutionaries? I have read some interesting theories somewhere. Ditto the chinese. Ditto the ANC.

I have read some interesting theories somewhere. Ditto the chinese. Ditto the ANC. Lenin's grandfather was a Jew, he was a Jew - he went out of his way to employ 'foreigners' for high level tasks Lenin like President Lincoln both assassinated by Jews when they were no longer useful to the string pullers! In Lincolns case he got taken out due to mentioning non-ursury "Greenback" lending! They say Kennedy got shot - cos he was going back to the Gold standard! Lee H, Oswald murdered by Ruby - a Jew (said "he was made to do it" on deathbed confession) Marx was a Jew Trotski was a Jew A Jewish journalist who knew Trotsky from the period of his stay in Vienna ("when he used to play chess with Baron Rothschild (Ashkenazi Jew) in Cafe Central and frequent Cafe Arkaden daily to read the press there") is even firmer on the Yiddish issue: "He [Trotsky] knew Yiddish, and if at a later date, in his autobiography, he pretends to know nothing about Jews and Judaism, then this is nothing but a plain lie. He who had visited at Cafe Arkaden for years on end must have mastered both these matters to perfection. The language in greatest use at that Cafe was - besides 'Viennese-German' - Yiddish As to any other language. If indeed I used in my autobiography the word "jargon," It is because in my youth the Jewish language was not called "Yiddish," as it is today, but "jargon." This is how the Jews themselves called it. Ja-rg-on - Ja-hbul-on Yiddish = Jewish, the Jewish language of the Ashkenazi Edited July 17, 2011 by erranta
MarkG
I think Michael Moore is great. He's become a multi-millionaire by making movies for lefties about how evil rich people are.
Si1
i am finding it most informative. Not sure why you have a problem with it/him ? this I think Michael Moore is great. He's become a multi-millionaire by making movies for lefties about how evil rich people are. he's very very egotistical and takes up a cause to celebrate himself not the cause in this case it is probably the most just cause he has taken up, but the suggestion, that because capitalism has suffered a failure, means it is obvious what it should be replaced with, is flawed, and again only polays into the hands of egotists like him
zilly
I think Michael Moore is great. He's become a multi-millionaire by making movies for lefties about how evil rich people are. No - at no time does he say rich people are evil. He says that the current system which pushes more and more money to fewer and fewer people is storing up enormous social problems. He is correct. Now the credit tap's been turned off, we can see this starting already. It seems rather bizarre to me that someone who is pointing out what is staring us in the face is simply dismissed as a 'leftie' - but that's the power of propaganda. guitarman001
Thought the film was amazing!! Don't agree that capitalism is evil as such, just that we currently have a very corrupt upper circle. Also they put a rosey tint on socialism and we know how well that's worked out..... All in all, something people should watch.
wonderpup
Nothing can alter the basic fact that when the invisible hand came knocking at their door the entire neo liberal establishment went running back to the state to bail them out, which means that everything they ever claimed to believe about the virtue of the free market and the evil of the state was self serving bullshite. The spectacle of Jim Cramer whining on TV that 'this cannot be allowed to happen' was utterly pathetic and expressed perfectly the venal hypocrisy of the whole lousy set up. Where were the moral guradians of free markets that day? Hiding in their offices shitt-ing themselves.
cybernoid
Interesting if over simplified, but scenes like those where a camera was shoved into the face of a small child crying over the loss of his mother put the filmmaker in the same camp as those others exploiting the 'little people' who don't know what the hell is going on. 'Bart'
What we have now is not capitalism. He should have called it something like "How the elites destroyed capitalism" Exactly. For example, Moore mentions his childhood when his father worked for General Motors and they had a good lifestyle and could buy their own house. Now I'm pretty sure that GM was not owned or part-owned by the government at that time. It was in fact, a capitalistic enterprise. Interesting if over simplified Pretty much my take on it as well. Worth viewing but there are better films on the same subject (Inside Job for one, or Plunder -- The Crime of our Time). (Interestingly, Overture Films is owned by John Malone, the Rush Limbaugh-loving media magnate who was fined a hefty $1.4 million this summer by the Justice Department for illegal stock purchases.) Moore mentions that capitalism isn't in the U.S. constitution. Neither is his preferred alternative, democracy. The biggest laugh for me was the suggestion that Goldman Sachs and the rest of Wall Street's funding of the Obama campaign occurred as a last minute "oh shit" afterthought. "What would happen to their way of life"? (If Obama won.) As it turned out, NOTHING. The main difference between Obama and Bush is that Obama is much better at using a teleprompter. "Do you think the free market has failed Detroit"? "I think the free market has failed the country". WHAT free market?
