Ny Times As Plastic Reigns, The Treasury Slows Its Printing Presses

Recommended Posts

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/07/business/07currency.html?_r=1&ref=business

The number of dollar bills rolling off the great government presses here and in Fort Worth fell to a modern low last year. Production of $5 bills also dropped to the lowest level in 30 years. And for the first time in that period, the Treasury Department did not print any $10 bills.

The meaning seems clear. The future is here. Cash is in decline.

You can’t use it for online purchases, nor on many airplanes to buy snacks or duty-free goods. Last year, 36 percent of taxi fares in New York were paid with plastic. At Commerce, a restaurant in the West Village in Manhattan, the bar menus read, “Credit cards only. No cash please. Thank you.”

However another thought is could cash become more value than paperless electronic money? Paper at least has a physical presence, whereas electronic money is merely numbers on a computer screen.

Although if it's all electronic money can be more easily monitored and therefore taxed by the govt.

A well oiled banking machine's purpose is to make cash irrelevant.

I use cash very little myself too.

Murdoch would have whole teams of his criminals hacking into them though.

Obviously Rebekah Wade wouldn't know anything about it and have his full backing.

(p.s. you can't have electronic hyper wotsit - at least within a domestic economy - for obvious reasons)

If they can be fitted into the reproduction areas we could have a sex tax. Every penetration could be recorded and taxed accordingly.

Add them to bums, mouths, hands and feet all bases covered. Nothing will escape the sex revenue collectors. There could be a 3some tax, orgy tax all participants logged and charged. We could even go for an orgasm tax.

Solo sex - 1p a minute tax?

Couple sex - 10p a minute tax (each)?

3somes - 50p a minute ...

Then people can boost about how much they are spending on sex.

History would suggest that that isn't the case. Generally, they are a bit sloppy and someone may find you in the recycle bin, but once there it is almost impossible to get restored to the desktop. Rumours suggest that it has been done once before, 2000 years ago, but that required intervention by the root administrator.

How does a blind man know he has a tenner in his hand and not a bus ticket?

Like tenners give decent price signals.

All the move to ultimate unreality will do it vapourise the system even faster.

Not in my lifetime.

Not in many peoples.

Hard to get food to the shops when you have no idea what to grow, who for or where to send it.
