'bizarre' Case Of The Chicken Bone That Caused Four-Car Crash

A DISTRICT judge says the case of a man who threw a chicken bone across a road and caused a four-car pile-up is the most bizarre he has ever known.

An unmarked police car made an emergency stop when Andre Varciana threw the bone at friends in Swansea.

District judge Vivian Manning-Davies was told four cars were badly damaged when they also had to brake.

...

Ms Evans said the officer made an emergency stop, the cars behind braked, and four were badly damaged in a rear shunt — although the police car was unscathed.

Slam on the brakes on a clear road with no apparent obvious danger and cause a multiple pileup and you'd be lucky to escape a dangerous driving charge!

...unless you're a police officer.<_<

Isn't it also the case that if you hit a car from behind, you were driving too close, and thus driving without due care and attention?

Waste of the court's time.

This surely belongs in the bizarre excuses on motor insurance claims files.

No excuses. If you're in charge of a car you should be in control, even if something unexpected happens.

The chap should have only got a littering charge, what's the difference to that a rubbish been blown into the road. I would say the 3 cars behind are at fault for driving too close - however the policeman is not totally innocent.

It's not even littering until and unless he leaves it and walks away.

Nearly two days and only one pun in the thread? Things are slipping in here.

The thrower fell fowl of the law.

I'm sure the guys that were in the pile up were not c@ck-a-hoop at the cause of the accident.

The prosecutor said it was a game of chicken that went wrong.

:)

His buddies were on the central reservation of the dual carriage way, so I guess the police suspected something dodgy. Then he threw what was probably a leg bone - not surprising they "reacted or over reacted", as it says in the report.
