I grew up watching Columbo and still enjoy the re-runs... R.I.P. Oh sad news. I loved Columbo, especially the early 1968 onwards Indeed they showed the original pilot on ITV a few weeks back. Might have recorded it. It has "Presciption: Murder" with Gene Barry as the guest star/murderer. Lee J Cobb and Bing Crosby were among those considered to play Columbo. Indeed the Columbo character was originally quite different. Didn't realise that Peter Falk was about the third to take the role!

Lorraine's Cross
This is terribly sad. He had been suffering from advanced Alzheimers and apparently couldn't remember his time as Columbo. He was a class act, I remember him playing himself in the Wim Wenders film Wings of Desire.

okaycuckoo
Remember when the actor went crazy a few years ago, just when the financial disaster was hitting? One of the trolls on ********************* had columbo as his user name - got taken down every time with the photo of peter falk flipping out. ps. I can't believe **** is still blanked on this forum! Georgia O'Keeffe
Just one more question.............. I loved the way they told you who did it, then showed who Columbo caught him. I loved it. i loved the way he had to nail Patrick Mcgoohan 4 times, just because he was a free man

I also liked Peter Falk in the WW2 war film Anzio.

It's got to be a good show to tell you who did it at the start and still get people to watch. Have to admit he was one of my favorite detectives. MattW
RIP Peter Falk. Great TV show was Columbo. Loved how he would play the fool, driving the little Peugeot convertible, his unkempt appearance and lulling the well-to-do criminals into a false sense of security and then...POW! The Masked Tulip
A lot of future top film diectors and writers worked on Columbo - it was class all around. I enjoyed Peter Falk - at one point he was the highest paid actor in the World for Columbo. Fine actor.

'Bart'
Must admit to being a fan. I grew up watching Columbo and still enjoy the re-runs... I loved 'em and I'm not usually a fan of detective fiction. Robert Culp appeared 4 times as I recall. There was one where William Shatner used a very early video recorder to fake an alibi by making it seem to his friend that he'd been watching a live football game with Shatner, whereas during the time the game was on, Bill was out a killin' The formula often seemed to be that a murder would be committed by a specialist in some field (surgeon, cosmetics, doctor, chess), a field that Columbo then proceeds to bone up on during the story. In-between irritating the hell out of the murderer (who Columbo has usually pegged from the start) he often acts as if the murderer is someone he needs to help him with the technical details of the case. The murderer, usually dismissive of Columbo, is happy to contribute, thinking that they've already gotten away with it.
SarahBell
The mistake is to try and explain it or show the evidence. Shrugging and saying I dunno would gave meant many got away with it.

Bosh
The essence of good telly. In the 40 minutes he spent annoying people he was never rude or aggresive. Very good script writing. No need for contant car chases or shoot outs.
Harry Monk
Yes, there were a lot of "class" undertones, the crims were always well to do and looked down on Columbo as "working-class" and rather stupid and easy to dupe, finding out their mistake only when it was too late...
