Bt Infinity?

Recommended Posts

About to move yet again out of this damp little bedsit into a two up two down which isn't in a great area but isn#t much more than the rent of me bedsit right now.

Conveniently I'm going to be in a BT infinity area.

BT has a bad rep, esp with Phorm spying...

But 40mb a second think of all the porn I could download with that on an unlimited basis (oh come on the internet is for porn).

What say you HPC?

I wouldn't ever touch BT with a barge pole.

I could go in to the stories but it would take too long.

A brief example, my dad has been given the run around by them for 4 years, each time they suggest he gets the new latest package or router, which of course never makes a difference. Latest is the Infinity which is a pile of crap because it is super wizzy fast right up to junction box at the end of the street which then moves on to old shitty copper wire for the last 50 meters.

Currently on Virgin never had a single problem.

The 'Infinity' bit stands for how long you will be waiting on the end of the line to customer services or the amount of time you'll be spending in their customer call routing system I'm afraid.

Its a bit misleading of them to suggest that it has anything to do with the broadband speed.

Seems to be generally positive feedback here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/bt/

People saying they get the quoted speeds for their line. It's not in my area yet but I reckon I'll get it when it is as I don't live in a Virgin cable area (which has problems of its own too). It would be useful for streaming movies, etc.

I get 85kb right now though so 1mb is better than anything.

Bloody 'ell thats rubbish by even my standards.

BT Standard Snoozeband. Promised 4MB, got 1MB. Though with a lot of complaining we seem to be up to 1.2MB

No chance of Infinity. Hardly anyone voted for it in my area, because I am in a Virgin Media area. Of course I choose a development which isn't connected to Virgin Fibre.

I can actually get 4-5MB downloads from my Three 3G router. Have that can work out pretty expensive for streaming.

I live in a converted mill about 6 miles from the telephone exchange.

I live 2 miles from Huddersfield town centre. The exchange is also 2 miles away (as the crow flies) in another direction. I assume the cable is routed via the town centre.
