Ex-Reality Tv Star Asks For A Million In Bid To Buy Home

Recommended Posts

SOME people save for years to buy a house, while others inherit the money or take out huge loans.

But a bold former reality television personality has come up with a novel way of finding enough cash to fund a deposit on a home – by asking for it.

Bank worker Ryan Lewis, 25, decided the simplest way to get his foot on the Cardiff property ladder was to set up website givemeamillion.co.uk and ask people to gift him some cash.

The former professional wrestler, who appeared on E4 reality show Shipwrecked in 2006, wants to buy a house for himself and girlfriend Rachel Hutton, also 25.

The keen musician said he wanted to have enough money to put a recording studio in the property and work on his creative passions, as well as take driving lessons and buy a car.

Ryan, whose wrestling career with Celtic Wrestling was cut short by injury, is currently living in a rented flat in Cathays and earning £14,500 a year as a customer service associate at ING Direct in the city centre. He said even though the site is called Give Me A Million, his main target was to raise enough for a deposit on a house somewhere in the capital.

He told the Echo: “A dream, and I’m talking a pure dream here, would be opposite Roath Park but, realistically speaking, anywhere would be absolutely fine.”

And even though his page asks mega-rich Bill Gates and Donald Trump for the dosh, Ryan said he would be grateful for contributions both big and small.

He added: “If anybody out there is gracious enough to donate then they are welcome to the house party.”

Father-of-one Ryan said both he and his partner were working to try and save up the money themselves, with Rachel holding down two jobs to raise the cash for a deposit on a property.
