exiges
HI, Does anyone know if Milton Keynes a place worth investing at the moment? A 2 bed flat £140,000 has a rental income of £700. Thanks. That's expensive. You can get a 2-bed house with garage and garden on a decent estate such as the Racecourses for £150k and get more in rent too. I've got a rental there. thecrashingisles
Wolverton is worth looking at. Near a train station I've never understood why all the trains stop at Wolverton. It's a pain when you're trying to get to Northampton.

I've no idea why the trains stop at Wolverton - but if you get stuck on the train you can tweet LondonMidland and normally they respond within a few minutes with an answer. @LondonMidland
disenfranchised
Northampton is on a rubbish little branch line. It basically branches off the main line between MK and Rugby - that's why you can only usually catch local trains to Northampton that stop at Wolverton, and all the ones on to Birmingham stop at Long Buckby. Northampton got bypassed by all the main North/South lines and to get round this, eventually ended up with 3 stations and 4 branch lines instead, and was actually pretty much linked in to all 3 main North/South lines with only 1 change of train until the 60's. Castle Station is the one we still have now, there was also one off at the bottom of Bridge Street near Southbridge, and another where St Johns carpark is opposite Morrisons off Victoria Promenade. The other lines that were disbanded went to: Peterborough (the Peterborough end is now the Nene Valley Steam Railway, part of Earls Barton station is a restaurant. Bedford (tracks still run to Brackmills as sidings, several bridges still standing in fields, and the line can be traced on google earth) Market Harborough (A small bit is now the Lamport Railway and a cycle track runs the full length of the line - you can ride through 2 huge brick built tunnels) The only one left open is the definitely the oldest, maybe the shortest, was and probably the cheapest to build of the lot - a little loop that branches off the west coast mainline at Wolverton and runs to Northampton & Long Buckby, then back onto the west coast mainline at Rugby. [ /history lesson ] P.S. I am not a trainspotter geek - I stumbled over part of an old station out in the countryside on the way to Bedford last year, and spent an evening googling about how it got there. Historical reasons ? They used to build trains there. http://www.mkheritage.co.uk/mkm/wolvwork1.html
thecrashingisles
I had a thoroughly depressing visit to this development at the weekend - http://www.charleschurch.com/buckinghamshire_milton-keynes/hepburn-chase-1234 The houses themselves are nice enough (as they should be at those prices) but they are on a development which typifies all the worst examples of the British planning system. Crammed-in houses with not enough parking - winding streets so cars are parked all over the place. Just awful... There's nothing wrong with high-density in itself but that's not the way to do it. Flopsy
Does anyone have an opinion or been to see either of these developments in Milton Keynes? https://www.crestnicholson.com/oakgrovevillage/ https://www.taylorwimpey.co.uk/find-your-home/england/buckinghamshire/woburn-sands/parklands-at-woburn-sands A family member has just been transferred to MK and doesn't need to commute to London any longer. He likes new-builds for some reason. I like the older villages around there myself.

I'm sure one of these goes under the guise of townhouse, Milton is a love it or hate it imo. Surrounding area is nice though. Reminds me of Dorchester and Poundbury. You have the nice bit, and you have the other bit.
