Councils Clueless On Cuts

Recommended Posts

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/8558224/Almost-half-of-UK-councils-have-no-deficit-cuts-plan.html

A new survey shows that 40pc of local authorities are dragging their heels over sweeping spending cuts, either having no strategy in place or sitting on a draft plan that has no political approval.

Almost half of councils still don't properly know how to achieve cost savings, the study by construction company Interserve, seen by The Daily Telegraph, found. On average, councils are expected to make cuts of 20pc by 2014, with a third anticipating at least 25pc and one in 10 targeting almost a third or more, Interserve said.

But just a small minority of authorities are confident that they will achieve just 30pc or more of efficiency targets by 2014, the report revealed, with one chief executive of a borough council describing the cuts as "unmanageable".

Says it all really.

The report also raised concerns about whether public sector staff were capable of managing such drastic change, with 27pc of councils admitting workers lacked the skills to oversee reform.

Can't do the quote bit, but if the people in charge don't have the skills to handle it maybe they should be the ones to go

How strange paid to manage and yet finds the challenge unmanagable. That'll be £180k a year please.

No doubt that person will be able to ask their own price in the "private sector"?

What skills they will bring??:lol::lol:

My council (oldham) is looking at merging some services with Rochdale.

What they should probably do is eliminate councils by dividing them up to neighbouring authorities ...

You'd save far more money that way.

Its what Tory councils have done, down South and very successfully too.

...let's face it clowns like these troughers at the head of many Councils only know how to increase spending, waste, salaries, expenses bonuses etc...ask them to manage ...sorry ....they were not employed for that ....they are there to milk the system and ensure only services are cut while their jobs and salaries remain intact ...the day of reckoning is approaching ....one day there will be no money to pay for them ....unless... they are taught how to manage ......
