interestrateripoff
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1392317/House-prices-bank-holiday-weekends-weaken-demand.html House prices resumed their downward trend in May as demand from potential buyers weakened following the long Bank Holiday weekends.Estate agents recorded a 0.5 per cent drop in the number of househunters registering with them, the first fall for three months, according to housing intelligence firm Hometrack. The group blamed the fall in interest on the recent run of Bank Holiday weekends, which have caused people to put moving plans on hold while they enjoy the extra time off work. Good to know it was the bank holidays rather then people having no money. Next it will be all the summer holidays people are having at home causing the problem. I think they use a random excuse generator now a bit like those automated station announcements giving you the latest implausible reason why your train is late. Once upon a time bank holiday weekends were when a lot of house hunting was done. In fact it was not that long ago that this conveyancing magazine was predicting a surge in business at the spring holidays http://www.todaysconveyancer.co.uk/news.php?viewStory=369 Edited May 30, 2011 by stormymonday_2011

Lambie
http://www.dailymail...ken-demand.html Bank Holidays are a bad time to go house hunting. Bank Holidays have always been a bad time to go house hunting. Winston Smith would be proud.
pokercola
It was ONE EXTRA DAY! People keep making out like we have had some insane amount of bank holidays recently, that is nothing like what we normally have.
Fairies Wear Boots
I saw that rents were up, which was put down to people using the extra bank holiday to go out there and fight with other potential renters over the price. House prices down you say? Woohoo!

Rupert The
[ Good to know it was the bank holidays rather then people having no money. Next it will be all the summer holidays people are having at home causing the problem. It must have been the bank holidays. I'm sure that lots of people were thinking "with all of these bank holidays, there's no way I'll be buying any houses this month". No doubt they will all get back to it next month. The Masked Tulip
Swansea just got promoted - imagine the angst for local estate agents. Swansea in premiership - put 30% on all asking prices? No one buying - blame it on Swansea being in the premiership?

There's 18 comments on there right now - pretty much all of them berate the article for not stating the fact that high house prices are obviously the problem. John The Pessimist
Just tried to comment on this - comments are being moderated... The real reason house prices are falling is because comments on HPC are being moderated!!!!!! It's the absence of ramping that's doing it

Yes, the refusal to discuss this in the media has just become laughable, even sheeple know it`s game over.
The Masked Tulip
Some of the comments on there are clearly from HPC but they are so vague that they can be interpreted either way. If you are going to post on the MSM such comments please write short, simple comments that Joe Public will understand and not just stuff that HPC bears will be able to decode. cashinmattress
Blaming the weather and holidays on the UK housing markets decline is akin to blaming the Thomsons Local guidebook for teenage boys rampant masturbation habits.

grandmaster
You've got to laugh at the notion that a public holiday is going to stop people making a massive life-changing decision like buying a house. As if it's a trivial thing you'll put off like going out to the shops during bad weather or something. What next? House prices down because people want to stay in and watch the Britain's Got Talent final perhaps.

As if it's a trivial thing you'll put off like going out to the shops during bad weather or something. What next? You may laugh, and quite rightly so, but mass idiocy begets mass media idiocy (BBC).

You may laugh, and quite rightly so, but mass idiocy begets mass media idiocy (BBC). Yes and No, in that Yes people do as you say, but No in that I think it is not boom-specific. It is part of a generalized '****** it, this is all so complex, scary and with the potential to go horribly wrong that I really dont want to think about it and will instead put my fate in the hands of self-proclaimed experts' syndrome.
