Hopeful FTB
Last sold for £275k a year ago. Proper.P*ss.Take. I have the misfortune to rent in an adjacent street at the moment and the area is really dirty, lots of students so noisy at all hours, rubbish in the streets and teeny tiny dolls houses that sell for crazy amounts. The world has gone insane and after 11 years of living in Brighton, being priced out and feeling like a kid with their nose pressed up against the sweet shop window unable to buy anything, I am getting out. soon. can't take it anymore. athom
Bath and Brighton are very equally shafted I'll see your ridiculously overpriced colourful terrace http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-29530120.html And raise you a completely average 3 bed semi in need of intense modernisation for £375 http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-18850767.html A "charming" 2 bed terrace for £400k http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30111385.html How about a 2 bed bungalow with a couple of extra slant roofed "rooms" where the only storage space used to be for £390k, next to the industrial estate on a flood plain (hence it's elevated aspect). http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-29781688.html This is the norm in Bath now where prices seem to have jumped about £100k over the last year for no apparent reason. There are now no average semi's in Bath for under 350k. I phoned the EA of the last bungalow to see if he was on crack, i mentioned that no house in that road had ever sold for more than £260k and his reply was "ahh that's the trouble with the internet it doesn't give you a real picture of the market" and then proceeded to tell me about ONE sale recently of a similarly over priced property. Mrs Bear
Here's some insanity in Richmond, in the twee little 'Alberts'. 57 sq m for £525K. Just look at the room sizes - fairly typical for similar in the area. http://www.findaproperty.com/displayprop.aspx?edid=00&salerent=0&pid=7261908 As someone said recently, when I remarked how minute they were for the money, 'Ah, well, you see, you're buying into a lifestyle.' Silly me.

The Masked Tulip
This is the norm in Bath now where prices seem to have jumped about £100k over the last year for no apparent reason. Similar thing in Swansea. For some reason words like conspiracy, cartel, completely barking mad and other such terms spring to mind. At this rate within a few years a decent 3 bed semi will be about a million quid. If you buy one of these now on a mortgage, if any bank would be stupid enough to lend on one, when IRs do eventually rise I daren't even calculate what the monthly payments will be - probably more than the average local monthly gross salary. billybong
The price is totally utterly completely crazy but at least inflation is under control Edited May 23, 2011 by billybong

Silly me. Imagine how much it would bring if they added a cottage style bay window like the adjoining TERRACE house. The Alice In Wonderland economy. Ridiculous prices for a smorgasbord of crapholes ! With the impending closure of 3 MOD sites in the city the prices can't be being driven by the locals. As with Brighton, it must be the toxic effect of Londoners fleeing to more 'civilised' environs. Time for some ronto rate rises to depress the London/SE market methinks, to put an end to this nonsense. Either that or tripple the London rail tickets. Yes and the point must be that no one is buying on mortgages in Bath any more and the few cash buyers around can be asked for any crazy amount as long as everything else on the market is similarly crazy. The houses i've linked i expect are not meant to sell but only to make the other places appear reasonably priced. It's a big university town as well relative to the overall population, i've seen one student house come up for sale already renovated back into a family home. Something like 35,000 households and losing 3,500 jobs from the MOD though many will be handsomely pensioned off i expect.
