Uk Businesses Bailed Out By Euro Investment Bank

Funding for small business loans

Small businesses could benefit from Santander's success in securing more funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The bank has received an additional £150 million of funding from the EIB, which will allow it to make loans at discounted to rates to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Available immediately to companies with fewer than 250 employees, the funding can be used for loans of up to €12.5 million for a minimum of two years.

Simon Brooks, EIB vice president responsible for the United Kingdom, said: "The EIB is pleased to increase funding for British SMEs through Santander. This is part of our wider engagement to assist SMEs across the UK and elsewhere in Europe to continue to access investment finance during economically challenging times."

I wonder how many other lenders are in fact being "funded" by the EIB (or BofE come to think of it). All printy-printy, isn't it?
