Trade Balance

Recommended Posts

Looking at Forex Factory Calendar to see what figures to expect this week and I note that Trade Balance is out on Tuesday ... for some unknown reason I decided to expand the graph to see when the last time we exported more than we imported and was surprised (and I don't know why?!) when I expanded out to "Maximum" to see that throughout the noughties we were always importing more than we were exporting.

My question is when was the last time we exported more than we imported?

And should we be looking to run consistent positive balances rather than consistent and growing negatives?

Or am I making up a story from nothing?

If you are looking for the last monthly figure where exports>imports it was sometime in 1997 , yearly i am not sure.

Don't worry - trashing the pound has solved all our problems and we are well on our way to being an export led economy again. Just don't pay any attention to the inconvenient trade balance figures.
