Hypocrisy Alert : New Labour On Share Ownership

Recommended Posts

I posted this in May05:

I remember a young Tony Blair after the crash of 87 saying something like:

"This will teach governments that they should not be encouraging people into the stock market which can be as risky as a casino"*

Best of it was, the Tories offered no cash bribe like these idiots (shared home ownership) and they still came in for criticism.

*- big praise to anyone who can track this quote down verbatim. I heard it on the 80s series thing recently

Now the stakes have been raised to find a source for this Blair quote: today Gordon Brown will throw his weight (and therefore New labour's) behind wider property and shares ownership. Oh yes: U-turn city here we come. C'mon guys and gals. Dig up that Blair quote!

It's hypocritical twice over - not only are they encouraging people into something that can be as "risky as a casino", they're also planning to encourage people into actual casinos by granting licenses for Vegas style super casinos.

whats the point. he also used to support Unlitateral Nuclear Disarmament and now Labour have said they will use a pre-emptive first nuclear strike. no one is making a big fuss about that,

Are we to understand that you're against wider property and share ownership? What are you? Some sort of Trotskyist?
