CGI software shows people how they may look when they're older. When confronted with the practical implications of their own mortality they decide to save more and provide for the frail self they see in the digital mirror.

Interesting.

So when the reality of ageing punches through to people they get scared and drop the bluff and bluster about preferring to invest in great memories...ie mewing to buy holidays they can't afford.

Many years ago a company - not sure if it wasn't the Pru - ran an advertisement showing a man at various stages of life. When he was 20 he was not all concerned that he had no pension but by age 55 he was looking very haggard and worried. I suspect it was a very effective advert but the irony was that in those days - and I'm talking fifty years ago - an awful lot of people would have been on very good final salary schemes so didn't need to save privately.
