southmartin
Hi all I need a new external backup drive, and figured I might as well get a NAS one. The prime things I need are 2tb storage (across 2 x 1tb drives) RAID and the most important things are BUILD QUALITY and RELIABILITY Anyone have any recommendations? Live Peasant
I have 2 Netgear ReadyNas NV+ running (one on my business lan and one at home) and they have been fantastic. Very reliable and easy to use and the build quality is excellent. I was expecting it to be slightly plastic and flimsy but pleasantly surprised. Of course, if you're mirroring drives you will only get 1Tb from 2 * 1Tb drives.
RichB
Im quite happy with a 2 bay Synology job, stuck a pair of 2tb samsungs in it. Now just thinking about upgrading to a gigabit switch...

joe_
I've also got a ReadyNAS Duo, it's been great so far. The only gripe I have is that setting permissions for the share can be a bit confusing as the documentation is a bit sparse for that. They have some X-RAID technology which allows you to put in bigger capacity drives and it will work all seamlessly. Also has a usb port and you can hook up your UPS to it so it will shutdown safely etc..
RichB
Re-reading you mention the 2 most important things, but not money. In which case I have only heard great things about DROBO. http://www.dabs.com/products/drobo-4-bay-fw800---usb-2-0-storage-array-599L.html?q=drobo
RichB
Oh, and you need one of these to go with it. http://www.dabs.com/...BW.html?q=drobo And some disks. Or the 5 bay with networking builtin http://www.dabs.com/products/drobo-fs-5-bay-gigabit-ethernet-storage-array-nas-6Z1X.html?q=drobo
