Closed: Pupils Sent Home Early From School As Budget Cuts Lead To Fewer Teachers

Decision raises parent concerns over child care arrangements as school tries to balance budgets after £200,000 funding reduction

Bosses at a 1700-pupil school have allowed pupils to leave an hour early on Fridays to help cut running costs.

Tewkesbury School, a specialist technology and languages college in Gloucestershire, announced to parents that children will be sent home at 2.30pm instead of 3.25pm in an attempt to save money.

The school's headteacher claimed that cutting the length of the day will enable the school to reduce the number of teachers it employs.

The battle lines are being drawn, I wonder if the govt will respond with legislation saying pupils have to be taught X hours a week?

So it's merely an attempt to save money? I wonder if it will prove successful?

I used to finish school at 2.40. We started earlier, and had, I think, 25 mniutes for lunch.

But then that wouldn't make a story.

Sons school has an early finish on thursdays. Another one Wednesday afternoon is not for classes but for fluffy stuff.

Teacherswork less but paid the same.

They plead marking etc but they have it fairly easy I reckon.

Of course the real test is whether you would do it for the money. Would you?
