The Arab League Show Fortitude...

"Oh, we didn't want to hurt any civilians, that's not what we voted for..."

And what exactly did they think would happen? That the bombs had special devices that only blew up loyalists? Dimwits. Christ, if these nations didn't have oil they'd still be drawing on cave walls and would think a box of matches were the devils work.

I guess most still do - the veneer of education on some of them is only microns thick.

I think that what they thought would happen was a no fly zone be imposed which is what was discussed and voted on.

What they did not vote on was Sarkozy to start a bombing campaign.

The mandate allows protection of civilains by any measures, so bombing tanks if fine.

Anyway, the Arab League DID not say they object to what the coalition have done, the man has said he was misquoted..

firing on armour would fall within the mandate if they are either firing on civilians or are about to.

destroying air defenses, military bases and armour no where near conflict is not within the UN mandate. Neither is bombing the capital where there are no civilians in danger.

I think the "protection of civilians" clause is so that Bahrain, Saudi & Co's governments can say that the parts of their populations that are protesting against them are sponsored by Gaddafi, thereby giving them a NATO / UN approved way of blowing them all to pieces.

Arabs only invented the scientific method, optics, soap...... gosh, probably some other things

But anyway this is a very bogus pronouncement. They will have known that part and parcel of the no-fly zone is destroying air defences. Can't have one without the other. But i can think why the league of Arab dictators would be against taking out his forces and allowing the continuation of the dictator toppling momentum. That's an easy one.

Of course you can. But then your pilots get shot down and pretty soon the voters are demanding an end to the whole thing; Americans only tolerate wars where the other guys can't fight back.

Somehow I doubt that the Arabs calling for a 'no fly zone' were demanding that the Peace Prize President start by bombing Arabs. At best they knew it would happen and are now working to distance themselves as far as possible from America before their own people start demanding their heads, at worst they seriously expected US planes to fly through Libyan air defences to shoot down the Libyan planes.

Interesting. I was wondering the other day whether the release of that lockerbie chappy was actually a cunning ruse to rile us up against Libya - remind us all of how bad they are, let it simmer for a while, settle down, then WHAM. No need to pay pesky outrageous fees to dispose of coming up to their use by date munitions...

I remember that great quote by Gene Roddenberry, when asked "why there were no Arabs in Star Trek" to which he replied

"Because Star Trek is set in the future"

He was wrong - they breed like rabbits. Out here they all aim to knock out a football team of Mini Mohammads ;)

The words and 'algorithm' and 'algebra' come from a Persian mathematician's name, and the name of one of his books, respectively.

What they did not vote on was Sarkozy to start a bombing campaign.

This is a concerted effort between a bunch of nitwit politicians, spearheaded by both Camoron and Czarkosy, at the behest of god knows who.

Your fellow countrymen have been chucking in the missiles and bombs just as heavy handedly as the Yanks and French.

The goal of this invasion is, and always will be, to separate Libya from its oil reserves.

Persians aren't Arabs.

actually "algebra" is an arabic word. but the origins of algebra are more complex...

The roots of algebra can be traced to the ancient Babylonians,[6] who developed an advanced arithmetical system with which they were able to do calculations in an algorithmic fashion. The Babylonians developed formulas to calculate solutions for problems typically solved today by using linear equations, quadratic equations, and indeterminate linear equations. By contrast, most Egyptians of this era, as well as Greek and Chinese mathematicians in the 1st millennium BC, usually solved such equations by geometric methods, such as those described in the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus, Euclid's Elements, and The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art.
