Finding A Good Plastic Surgeon?

Recommended Posts

A bit of a random post but what the hell...has anyone here ever had plastic surgery? If so, got any tips on how to find a 'good' surgeon?

I am interested in scar revision surgery - went for a consultation with a surgeon at a local private clinic about a year ago - I found him to be rather condescending (this is probably a common occurance but I am not an idiot and didn't appreciate being treated like one) and just didn't feel at ease with the guy. Hence I didn't book anything with him.

However he's a member of the british association of aesthetic plastic surgeons, seems to have had a distinguished career lasting over 30 years, so maybe it doesn't matter if I like the guy or not. Should most surgeons be able to show before and after photos of similar surgeries they have performed?

You don't say where you live, but if in London you could try this crew

I refer to them because I know one of them to be as straight as a die and I'm sure would not be associated with any dodgy colleagues. As to arrogance - well, with surgeons, especially consultant surgeons, it comes with the territory. They are treated like gods by so many in the hospital service they believe it. If you get one with a good bedside manner treat it as an unexpected bonus.

Before and after photos which show faces might well fall foul of the Data Protection / privacy ethics rules? If it's legs or bellies I can't see why not.

You need to ensure:

  • the surgeon is a consultant in an NHS hospital, which will allow you to look up his mortality and morbidity records
  • he/she has his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training, which will mean he/she should have a log book of procedures carried out and whether he was in charge or under training.

You can look up stats here.

Good luck with it.

Fly to Thailand and have it done there?

When I lived in Hamburg Daniel one of my friends there vanished suddenly for a couple of months. He came back as Emily. She/he made a very very good trap. Except for one thing, she was extremely tall and towered over most people.

What's a good trap mean?

To the OP - ask a good GP. Ask several GPs in your area.
