Grand Design For Sale

You may recognise this oak-framed house on Lambourn Down in Berkshire as Rupert and Julie Upton’s struggle to build it featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs in 2001. It was one of presenter Kevin McCloud’s all-time favourites.

The Uptons are now selling five-bedroom Brock House for £1.45 million . . . but interest has been patchy.

‘Our estate agent says it is “architectural Marmite” – you either love it or you hate it,’ says Rupert, 49.

Here it is!

I thought that was one of the best houses featured too ... I think it was billed as 'The Cruciform House' due to the unusual layout.

Some great views and a large wodge of land with it IIRC but 1.45million sounds pretty steep.

I thought it was a good project too, but £725,000 sound pretty steep to me for a 4 bedroom house and that is at half price....

What amazes me is the number of these grand design houses that have come up or sale.

After building your dream home...wouldn't you live in it for the rest of your life.

Will we ever see the grand designs repo sale show ?

I like it.

Anyway, at £400,000, £750,000 or £10million, I can't afford it, even if I wanted to buy it.

Imagine heating that place in winter, and cooling it in summer. It gets poor energy ratings to boot.

That is the first thing I thought of, very high ceilings......the best thing about that house is the view. ;)
