FIGURES RELEASED BY THE NATIONAL OFFICE OF STATISTICS LAST WEEK SHOW THAT 38,000 JOBS WERE LOST DURING THE THREE MONTHS TO TAKE THE TOTAL LEVEL IN THE SECTOR DOWN TO 2,185,000

THE FALL REPRESENTS A DROP OF 1.7% YEAR ON YEAR AND INDUSTRY OBSERVERS ARE BLAMING UNCERTAINTIES IN THE HOUSING MARKET AND A SLOWDOWN IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR

"GROWTH IS MAINLY FROM GOVERMENT INVESTMENT BUT PRIVATE SECTOR DEMAND AND IN PARTICULAR HOUSING,IS MUCH SLOWER"
