Bbc Never Ask The Question We Need To Know

Peter Sissons was on Radio 5 plugging his book today in which he goes on at length about the left wing bias that he witnessed during his time at the BBC.

I don't know who it was that was interviewing him but they almost had a stand up fight.

It was Richard Bacon. Truly one of the thickest and worst-informed people in broadcasting, Seriously, the guy just isn't very bright and, as a consequence, goes with the mainstream and has very little independent thought.

If I gained power I'd shut down the BBC immediately, its way past useful. We do need a state broadcaster but not a political propaganda outlet.

Bring back bagpuss!

They can make some bloody brilliant documentaries...BBC4 can made some really great stuff...Would the stuff made by the likes of Adam Curtis be shown otherwise? If ITV was our main outlet, then god help us...

...nobody is criticising their entertainment / educational documentaries ...it's their news ....'Russia Today' is more balanced....

I haven't seen or heard enough of him to stand in judgement but he certainly held his own against Sissons who tried to patronize him throughout the bit I heard. I find that usually when you stumble across two guys arguing, even without knowing much about the background, it is quite clear who is being economical with the truth. You know what I mean, it's like when one guy is trying to pin the other guy down to stand up his argument with some actual facts and the other guy starts getting shirty and uses phrases like "Well, that was my recollection of what happened at the time".

It seems to me that Sissons, being of a more right wing persuasion, felt that he was outnumbered by those on the left in the BBC newsroom. He is almost certainly correct in that assumption but I also feel that he has vastly overstated the effect that had on the broadcasts. Folk who find themselves in the minority often adopt a bunker mentality and tend to blame anything they don't like on those who are "against" them. They also very quickly develop an over sensitivity to very minor irritations. We have all worked with someone like that at some time.

The other way the BBC manipulates things is to use its own reputation for independence whilst spinning the news. For example its economics editor Stephanie Flanders does this all the time.

She avoids the issues which are of real concern like inflation ever since she was reminded of her own track record in this area! ( She kept telling us there were no signs of any)

Any political news which can be spun is seized upon and reported even if there is other more important economic news around...

People are praised if she knows them out of all relation to what they have done. For example Brian Lenihan the Irish Finance Minister was described as "a good man". yes that is the same Brian Lenihan who has been Finance Minister whilst Ireland's economy has collapsed!

Also we were told Ireland would get nowhere near default and yet now we are told that SF predicted events....

Just watched the North West section on the BBC Politics Show.

It was a totally biased Labour party broadcast. Main guest Ed Balls saying we had a global recession "so we had to let the deficit grow to sort it out". The cuts are too deep, Cameron is taking a big gamble, twice mentioning a risk of rioting in the streets like Thatcher's 80's - he seemed to be campaigning for it.

If he's not he should be. People in this country rarely put up a real fight against or for anything.

The Egyptians took 30 years to rise up against their dictator. Here it would be more like 90.
