Uk Consumer Confidence In 'astonishing' Fall (Bbc Headline)

Recommended Posts

Obviously the word "unexpected" has got a bit tired and is no longer strong enough!

Astonishing is the new unexpected!

The confidence of UK consumers in the economy and their finances has suffered its biggest monthly drop in almost 20 years, a survey has suggested.

Rising VAT was a key factor behind the "astonishing" confidence fall, the GfK NOP Social Research report said.

The UK faced a "very painful period", it added.

More government austerity measures and the surprise contraction in the economy meant talk of a double dip recession was "unavoidable", the study said.

The VAT rise is like a sugar tablet before the real cuts/hikes kick in.

Imagine the impact of thousands of redundancies, council cut backs to services, selling off of woodland........

We never had the recession nor the 'recovereh' prior to know....this is when the proper recession starts and with it the real long term unwinding of the bloated housing market.

It is tipping.

Expectations

According to the GfK NOP Social Research report the eight-point fall in a key measure of consumer confidence between December and January, to minus 29, was the biggest monthly drop since the 1992 recession.

Pence are dropping. Finally.

And this should lead to over-supply of houses for sale in the spring, and fast price falls.

Totally unexpected! No-one saw it coming. Who could have predicted this?

(Edit to add: we should stick to the classics).

Millions of people have just noticed that they are fecking skint. The only mystery is how they could have been so stupid as to not notice earlier.

Previously they were skint but MEWing to cover the shortfall.

Which means game over! Even Amazon is tanking as well.

It's been said many times that once you crush the average man and woman consumer demand falls off a cliff which causes even worse tax revenues which causes even more reduced demand.

Time to buy some more shells I think.

You can hear the sea in the Cleethorpes and you don't really need a fortunes to live there. I suppose it beats sticking a shell in your ear though.
