Arup Cuts 670 Jobs In Uk

By David Rogers

..In September, the firm announced it had put 600 staff on a 90-day consultation in the wake of the coalition government’s decision to scrap or put on hold a series of public sector projects including the Building Schools for the Future programme.

Now the engineering-to-architecture business, which employed more than 4,000 people in the UK across 17 offices, has confirmed that 670 roles have gone as a result of the restructure. The company said 280 permanent roles, including five architects, had been axed along with a further 230 temporary and agency contracts while 86 people who have left the firm have not been replaced....

My comments: For cutting the budget we usually focus on job cuts for people who are directly employed by the state. But just as huge is the 'private sector' contractors to the state. If the coalition were to reduce the budget by 50% to a mere, £80 billion..and we assume one job = £50,000 pounds.. then they would have to get rid of 1,600,000 jobs. Which is why the coalition is blinking when it comes to the job cuts. They can cut by tens of thousands of jobs and it doesn't even make a noticeable dent in the budget.

Reduction in public sector deficit = reduction in flows to private sector

Who knew!

Clearly not Dave + Osborne.

"Engineering Consultancies" are full of paperwork engineers!

A bit like Andersons, who were paperwork managers!

Of course they knew, and perhaps they could have been more open about it. But really there was and is no other option.

Debt free currency issued solely by the government?
