The U S A Has Become One Big Reservation

interesting interview about economy, politics and social changes in the US (1:35h long).

American Indian Russell Means warns that Americans have lost the ability of critical though, and with each successive generation become more irresponsible and as a consequence less free. Means chronicles the loss of freedom from the 1840's onwards, which marked the birth of the corporation, to Lincoln's declaration of martial law, to the latter part of the 19th century and into the 20th when Congress "started giving banks the right to rule," and private banking interests began printing the money.

Yeah, blah, blah, blah, Livy was saying the same thing 2000 years ago, the Early History of Rome, Book 1, paragraph 4, some penguin version or other.

Tacitus said the same thing 100 years after Livy and I bet loadsa peeps were bitchin' about that stuff before those two.

How does it go?

"We're finished. The kids are useless. Their parents are worse and all the good guys are dead."

Despite the fact the average septic is more free than one of the 1840 vintage could ever conceive of (How about the abolition of slavery?), the depressive turgidity of these winey old so and sos rolls ever on, boringly so.

Well in a sense they were right. Rome did fall eventually. Obviously these things go in cycles. Something has to give, and this cycle is reaching an end point.

Though I do worry, that technology is making us stupid.

I think the fashionable yank-haters of our liberal distopia will be eating their words if your wish comes true.

You have to wonder what will happen in the world when the US decides to withdrawl into its borders.

Exactly. Do they think a world run by the Russian mob or the Chinese commies would be preferable? God help us if the Arabs took over. Not that that is going to happen. I think the US will be just fine, it is Europe that I am concerned about - I think we will go the way of South America. If the Americans opened their borders to British immigration, I'd be gone in a heartbeat.

Russell Means is a thoroughly interesting chap.

He played the 'Last Mohican' in Michael Mann's 'Last of the Mohicans' film starring Daniel Day Lewis.

But he is perhaps better known as being one of the leaders of the Wounded Knee 'hostage' event in 1972 when Native Americans across the US gathered in Wounded Knee to protest their Rights and ended off in an armed stand-off with the Federal Govt.

He strikes me as one of those well-balanced Human Beings that you are sometimes lucky to encounter.

True but is it worse to dress up supposed freedoms to the masses when actually they are porns in the corporate end game; debt as slavery as the FED marches to its own sinister tune at the expense of joe public.

If you think people matter more in the States than Russia or China i think this is mistaken - just watch 'When the levee broke' to see what the average american really means to this nation.

Land of the free, unless your a native or don't agree with what your been told.

The sooner the better this empire falls.

"Indians" have very special privileges in the US. Top of the tree is positive discrimination. Tax free gambling rights. Don't forget the "Indians" (Northern Chinese and Mongolians) stole the lands in North America from the SA Mayans who were driven back accross the border into South America. The only "natives" in that part of the world are bears and squirrels etc.

The other great Empires are the Chinese, Russian and, possibly a 4th Reich if things go bad in Europe. I am certain you would not want to live under any of these totalitarian regimes.

Don't forget that your Norman Ancestors are directy responsible for the slaughter opf 25% of the native tribes of Saxons in the 11th and 12th Centures and how your great great granfather was in India passifying the Hindus. And on and on and on back to the dawn of civilisation.

Get real--this is a tough world and no one is lookng out for your freedom or rights.

Some might think its a pity Germany lost the war and failed to take us down so that the US could have been prevented from invading Normandy in 1944!

I agree--let the Libfascists go and live under Armourdinnerjacket, Wang King or Vladimir the Impaler in Russia if they want to know how it feels to live in the "land of the oppressed."

I'm already there and glad of it. Yank hating is usually born out of ignorance. The US is a big place, each state is different, some good some not so good. I have lived in a fair few but still prefer the NE. Americans are generous (lot more than us Euros) which leads to resentment for some reason. The US will be last man standing despite the naysayers.

Could not agree more. I lived there for half my life and may go back after my present tour of duty in the UK is over. The anti-US sentiment that comes from those without a broad based knowledge of history tend to see the US as the oppressors and the totalitarian regimes such as the Soviets, Islamofascists, China, Venezuala as true freedomfighters looking out only for our good if only we would allow them to take over.

The problem is one of ignorance of history. If you have no knowledge of the past you cannot learn from it and the revisionists win the day. 1984 was a great novel because it understood this.

Do you all really believe that the only alternative to the US abusing the world is USSR or China doing it? Christ !

Actually Christ came because we were all abusing the world. Watch the recentish film "Kingdom of Heaven" which seems to be about the Crusades but isn't. The point of the film is subtle and all to do with the common need fo all mankind--hence the Kingdom of Heaven. Christ is hated because he was a peacemaker and fascists hate peacemakers.

I agree, but you've got the wrong end of the stick, there is no yank bashing going on here, the indian guy was sticking up for the American constitution.
