Don't know whats just happened on QT but a smartly suited gentleman in the audience suggest closing down the shadow banking system to stop the sale of (fraudulent) mortgage bonds, then he claimed the bonuses wouldn't materialise. How did he sneak in? Come on own up! laugh.gif

I haven't seen so many whinging lefties since the early 1990s. Breathless and red faced; they seem to get off on wallowing in unaccountable indignation. I see 13 years of government hasn't dulled their hair-trigger ability to take offence at nothing.

I was so stunned by what he said that I am having to go and look at that on iplayer in the morning. Alas, what he said will have been lost on 99% of the small audience that is QT.

I am a "righty".

I find the shadow banking system to be destructive and insulting to free marketeers.

People who make poor decisions should bear the consequences of their choices without regard to their circumstances.

I abhor Labour who have allowed banks and individuals to escape the consequences of their choices.

I abhor the current government who are doing exactly the same thing.

To echo a theme from some recent threads, the problem is with the political class in general and not with the particular choice of tie colour that they wear.

How long did Liebour get away with the 'we inherited' line on QT? Years and years methinks. Co? About 8 months... Hmmmm.

Think you will find that incident erased from the iPlayer version TMP. I'm still stunned from the incident, and can't understand why he wasn't thrown out by security guards.

Also I don't think it was lost on the audience as he got a round of applause, though that might have been at the thought of bankers loosing their bonuses as I doubt any of the lefties would know what a "shadow banking system" was.

Switched off in disgust, when they got to the asian/street grooming thing. Just an excuse for a multicultural round of applause! laugh.gif

call me a leftie ,

but

what is shadow banking ?

investment (casino) banks, hedge funds, basically non deposit taking institutions. The ones throwing toys out of prams and moving to Swiss land. (Maybe the writing is on the wall!).

I said exactly that to the missus with a big smile on my face - very few of the audience in the studio or at home will have understood what he was going on about. Some of the panel most certainly did judging by the looks on their faces :)

You guys are missing the main issue.

To call a schoolgirl dressed as Cheryl Cole who has shagged more men than she has GCSEs as ' easy meat'

Jack Straw should be sent down.

For trying to label all Muslim boys as ' groomers' whatever that is, it's one of those new words.

Totally reprehensible.

Hey they ain't new. In the 1930s Hayek described the problems caused by expansion of credit outside the mainstream banking system. And what would happen when the institutions responsible inevitably screwed up. And what happens is that the bad credit created has to be montetized and society takes the hit to prevent the complete collapse of credit. He described it all 70 years ago.

The holy grail for a banker is to get involved with a type of institution (hedge fund, whatever) that is massively profitable, unregulated and has the capacity to create credit, knowing that if they get it right and create enough of that bad credit the failure of their enterprise would be so damaging that society would have to bail them out. They're like a ******* cancer. Criminals.

Agree but you're going off topic. Start a new thread in a different section of the forum.

Gove seemed to take a very keen interest in what he said.

I thought Gove gave a bit of an inspired speech regarding education.

Anyway I saw it also and thought 'is that Eric Pebble'? Couldn't believe it! Most of the rest of the show was dross, though - condescending. These people (MPs) are smarter than they look and the thing they were talking about are just diversions. Diane Abbot and her hand waving and condescending and the way she says 'nooo' to something that is true but which she doesn't like to hear... enrages me.

Dimbleby definitely moved on, ESPECIALLY after the chap related things to MORTGAGES.

Was good to see a few more right wingers in the audience, even if some were bankers. I loathe lefties. Especially the ones on that show.

There were one or two more but overall the panel and audience was the usual biased unrepresentative group hand picked by the Guardian/ Fabia/ Common Purpose cabal from the NUJ dominated BBC. The panel basically consisted of all left wingers of one description or the other, other than Gove.

I loved the man who sneaked in. Shadow banking should be banned if that's the bit that full of poison.

Education - is it a good idea for kids to do maths, english, a foreign language, a science and a humanities subject as a CORE to their schooling?

I had the feeling that the panel mostly thought kids could get by with a gcse in using crayons.
