HOMEOWNERS in Dumfries and Galloway saw the third biggest rise in property prices across the UK last year.

According to a Bank of Scotland survey they rose by 11 per cent, bringing the average house price to £139,578.

Estate agent John Hunter (pictured), manager of Dumfries and Galloway Solicitor and Property Centre (DGSPC), told the Standard: “The rise in property prices is very good news for sellers and buyers but we must not read too much into the figures.

“The increase has basically put us back to where we were sitting in 2008.

Two thousand and nine was a very difficult year for the property market so the figures are a welcome improvement.

“We now want the market to remain steady as what we don’t want to see is slumps and booms as it makes the market unstable.”

Mr Hunter believes the market is stronger than this time last year and predicts further improvement as spring sets in.

Why is this happening in this area? Don't want to see this spreading out across the UK.
