Murderer Loughner On Currencies.

I was hoping that he was some kind of govt agent gone wrong, a lot of the anti-federalist stuff suggested he might be on about that amero currency that used to be talked about a lot before the whole gold vs debt thing took over.

Anyway seems he wasnt. Seems he was just mad, what he says about currencies he also says about mars rovers and space shuttles and time.

He can spell and write grammatically correct prose, even though its nonsensical.

Seems very likely that he's schizophrenic, about 1% of the population is and it usually presents around the age of 20. The chances are that we interact with them on forums like this, its pretty hard to diagnose someone via their forum postings . Two things are common , its very often triggered by teenage dope smoking (apparently every schizophrenic in hospital is a smoker) and schizophrenics tend to smell of cheese (bizarre but true).

Schizophrenia is such that a previously sane person goes dangerously bad but is perfectly capable of getting a legal gun in the US and due to the lack of preventative medical care in the US the illness is less likely to be picked up on.

Still, its good to know the Gold bugs have a fan...

The media see that he is a white male, and decide that he must be a racist, nazi and so on.

Turns out theres nothing to suggest he was, not that the MSM would judge anyone by their appearance, or anything. They're above such things.

When they get a real nazi, and he doesnt turn out to look quite how their stereotypical image of a nazi presents itself, (ie a native american!) the whole thing is ignored.

My other half noticed this "Loughner is a right wing nutter Nazi scum and it is all the fault of Sarah Palin" line yesterday, and got really pissed off about it. He says he is going to write to the BBC and ask them for their evidence that Loughner, indeed, is all these things.

If dope smoking was causing schizophrenia, there would have been a rise in the number of schizophrenics. So, it's the other way round, schizophrenics like smoking dope. But dope or no dope(schizos boozing is far freakier btw... fear that), if someone has schizophrenia it will eventually turn up even if they stick to milk.

Actually schizophrenia sufferers are not all that sane before the illness breaks out fully and often there is an escalation of symptoms before it all 'blows up'.

The US has as good/bad health care as anywhere in the Western world, and it's not that the UK (or any country in Europe for that matter) is a leader in caring well for schizos either... how many of them end up killing people with weapons ranging from onion knives to katanas? (...)

I think it's connected to the Western ideal of a educated person with a free will who exercises self-control. Fatties, smokers, drunks are hated for their inability to 'control' themselves, but mentally ill people are an anathema to theory that humans are in complete control of their lives, and that freaks people out the extend that they prefer to ignore the problem instead.

Loughner left a huge trail of red flags where ever he went, and in most countries people like him are simple ignored until they eventually blow up and self-destruct. Most of the time this is 'harmless' and the only person to suffer is the patient, but sometimes... it goes wrong epically. Sadly so, TPTB have decided that mopping up is cheaper than preventing.
