One has to wonder what was there before that caused the planners to think that this was a good idea ....

I seem to recall this thing was on HUTH a while back.

As far as I am aware, this is not something that was designed to be a home, but rather has been developed, having formerly had some specific function (storage / loading of a particular vehicle?)... hence the rather im(op)pressive shape.

Apologise if you are being sarcastic, and I have misunderstood the tone of your reply :).

Probably one of the terraces behind wanted to keep their view and the others werent bothered. Looks like some selfbuilt shack in south america though, complete with disintegrating concrete pavement in front of it.

House for a big cheese, something about Welsh rare-bit and other selective jokes, etc, etc.

that's a rare bit of property for a big cheese?

Is it just me who thinks that the front door says "traditional" and does not fit in at all with the rest of the house?

Well i looks to me like the builder just dipped his hands into an assemblage of various door and window parts and threw them onto the front of the house.

And yes that style of door and window has no place in a "contemporary" house.
