I don't know why cable is against this. Could be a major new export for Britain! (I can see from the invoice that the total was about 4500 for 10 lethal injection doses). Perhaps opening up exports to Iran, China and North Korea would create new markets for this? Even Russia perhaps... the possibilities are endless :(

There are plenty of cheaper alternatives. A bullet for instance.

Even cheaper is AIR, you can have a lethal injection with an empty air filled syringe to cause an embolism. Inject into the heart of a major vein and sit back and watch as they die rather quickly.

This is supposedly a bit of a Murder She Wrote myth. Typically (although not always) the air from a single syringe isn't enough. It's also supposedly a very painful way to go. How about dropping a 10 ton weight on the head - should be quick, painless and cheap too.

I oppose the death penalty in all cases but measured-drop hanging is probably as cheap and efficient as it gets.

Interesting that they cannot find anyone to supply these chemicals in the US, presumably companies refuse to supply the Department of Corrections with them.

Personally I would prefer to see the USA forced back to its traditional methods of the electric chair and the gas chamber so as not to disguise the horror of what they are doing by dressing it up as a medical procedure. I think many states would abolish the death penalty altogether if they were forced to return to them.

During the April 6, 1992, execution of Donald Harding in Arizona, it took 11 minutes for death to occur. The prison warden stated that he would quit if required to conduct another gas chamber execution. Following Harding's execution, Arizona voted that all persons condemned after November 1992 would be executed by lethal injection.

Syringes are reusable. I sometimes fix my brakes with them, use it on the bleed nipple to inject about 20cc of brake fluid into the brake system. Remove it fill it back up and keep on injecting. If you have a small one you may have to use it 5-6 times.

Hell even cheaper get a knife, cut neck artery let them bleed out, it is pretty much how we kill meat in our 'civilised countries'. You can see loads of botched cuttings on youtube where animals bleed for quite a long time.

Measured drop hanging is rubbish , you should just use a 20 metre long rope, such a long rope almost always guarentees the head comes off. Drop hanging is actually quite brutal as the neck break isn't always painful enough to knock you out. According to my pathology books often when drop handed the person's neck breaks but the nerves above the break can still feel pain and the person is slowly strangled to death. IIRC reading one of these books the heart can be found to be bleeding a significant time post hanging. With a long rope the head comes off and you will die VERY quickly.

With all due respect Ken you are supposed to top brake fluid up by topping up the master cylinder and then by pumping it through the system with the footbrake so it bleeds out of the bleed nipples along with any air in the system, you aren't supposed to top it up using the bleed nipples.

This changed years ago. It is acceptable to bleed top up or whatever at the top or the bottom or even the middle with specialised banjo bolts when you accidentally break a hose. Dealers to save time use a device called a Mitvac which they attach to the bleed nipple to fill the system. If you watch it forces the bubbles out the hole in the master cylinder.

Dealers have used these to save time much like sucking oil out of the top of an engine rather than letting it out of the bottom. It works and you can repressurise a system extremely quickly by using both the top and the bottom.

I tend to bleed and top up at the top, then do the bottom then the top again.

Your head will be detached very quickly, but your brain will presumably live on for 20 to 30 seconds albeit probably unconscious.

Hence my suggestion of a weight large enough to ensure complete brain destruction. Additionally dropping it is probably not enough. You would want to propel it down on to the head at at least 120 m/s to ensure that the brain has no time to experience it's destruction. Obviously you would also need the head to be resting on a solid base to ensure appropriate high speed crushing. Some kind of high speed hydraulic punch with a diameter of > 30 cm perhaps.

From what I read somewhere, it's because sodium thiopental is now obsolete for its originally intended purpose, i.e. a medical anaesthetic. When lethal injections were invented, they used what was at the time the anaesthetic du jour. However, more modern alternatives have been developed since which don't have the same side effects if you're trying to use the stuff for therapeutic purposes as distinct from homicidal ones. As a result of this there is no only one manufacturer of sodium thiopental in the US left. They are claiming that they can't make any due to being unable to obtain the raw ingredients, but some suspect that it is because the only thing this stuff is now used for is capital punishment, and the company involved don't want to be associated with it.

Personally I would prefer to see the USA forced back to its traditional methods of the electric chair and the gas chamber so as not to disguise the horror of what they are doing by dressing it up as a medical procedure. I doubt it. I suspect that the executions would attract a large and enthusiastic audience. The French guillotined people in public until 1939. The reason they stopped was because someone surreptitiously filmed an execution and made a lot of money out of so doing, in response to which the French government didn't want the reputational damage and decided that from then on, the decapitations would take place behind closed doors.

Dealers have used these to save time much like sucking oil out of the top of an engine rather than letting it out of the bottom.

I thought the reason for this was for garages to reduce the risk of accidentally shearing the head off a seized sump drain plug while attempting to unscrew it, thereby letting themselves in for a big repair job.
