Rare Bear
And the brakes virtually ineffective without the servo working? No servo just means you have to press harder on the pedal.
Realistbear
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/car-manufacturers/ford/8246140/Ford-Focus-review.html Ford Focus review The third generation of Ford's epochal family hatchback moves the sector on once more, leaving the compeition feeling very dated. Toyota are, like, so last decade.
feed
It takes time to repair reputations comparing it to Honda it'll be 2015-2020 before they start to get a decent reputation again. As you can see by the bile on this thread Ford has a long way to go before it can recover its image. Ken, 10/2010 numbers, EU 22 market share 8.4% Segment highlights Fiesta 12.5% Polo 10.4% Clio 9.9% Transit 13.2% Transporter 12.6% Ducato 9.1% Galaxy 28.4% Espace 19.5% Sharan 12% Golf 21.1% Astra 12.8% Focus 11.5% New Focus launches Q3. Comparing current vehicles to a vehicle that was past end of life ten years ago doesn't really mean much and as for rebuilding a reputation, well see above. The current Fiesta is possibly one of the best vehicles we've ever made, (Yes, I drive one) and it's proving to be extremely popular amongst it's target demographic, the only problem is that it's eating into some of other segments, I.e. Focus, but that should change with the new Focus launch, it's a stunning vehicle. This forum is populated by tight fisted old men, by and large their opinion isn't all that important and marketing isn’t directed at them. If someone complaints they’ll never drive a Ford as the one they had 20 years had quality problems, that's fine, we probably don't want them as a customer. Alternatively they could take a test drive. I recommend the 1.6 TCDI.
fluffy666
Evidence that people are dumb? Fords are horrendous quality and have always been horrendous quality. It is why they have to advertise built to last to convince people that they have changed their ways. Which they haven't! Strange, my 10 year old Mondeo hasn't missed a beat reliability-wise, despite at least 2 careless owners. Dents easily, though.

I recommend the 1.6 TCDI. The problem with current Fords is that they are all FWD boring transport machines. Some variants may be quick and fast but still boring FWD. Although I was very pleased to see that the current Fiesta has at least started to show a bit of weight saving.
MarkG
I really have no sympathy for the drivers who apparently died due to throttle malfunctions on Toyotas. How do you 'control acceleration with the ignition key' when there is no ignition key? In at least one case, they had keyless ignition where you have to press a button for a few seconds to shut the engine down. Similarly, for 'put the car in neutral'; easy in a manual car, but ours are both auto and I have no idea where neutral is. I could look at the gear lever and try to figure it out, but that may not work too well if the car is racing away with the engine running flat out and you're freaking out as a result; and with computer-controlled transmissions there's no telling when or whether it will actually change. We've gone from an era where almost all cars worked the same way to an era of 'how the hell do I do this?' I was on a business trip to Holland a couple of years ago and we couldn't even work out how to start the car we hired, we had to go and ask them to show us how to do it and then at the other end we had to figure out how to stop the engine because we didn't think to ask. MarkG
OTOH the escort which continued till 2002 was appaulling. I owned two Escorts (1977 model and 1997 model) for short periods and while they were nothing special I didn't really have anything to complain about; they drove, were pretty robust and didn't cost much to fix. However, a friend who worked at a car rental place in America said the US version was a piece of crap.

Please GET OFF THE ROAD. You are a danger to everybody on the road if you do not know how to do this. Neutral is achieved in almost all toyotas by pushing the gear stick up one notch. In fact on many toyotas the car won't start unless it is in both neutral and the brake is depressed. There is even a big thing in the corner of the speedo which tells you what gear you are in. You can push the paddles on the steering wheel to toggle neutral.
MarkG
Please GET OFF THE ROAD. You are a danger to everybody on the road if you do not know how to do this. How many times does the average driver ever need put an automatic gearbox into neutral? I'm betting that 99% of the auto gearbox drivers here couldn't tell where neutral is on their car, or even what it does.
