Now Farming

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd have a look at farming news for something a little different, first few news items and it looks like divestment in this sector too.

The biggest shake-up in Europe's Common Agricultural Policy for 40 years has resulted in farm machinery dealers and manufacturers in England paying off staff and closing branches because of a big drop in orders.

Initial figures released by the NFU show mixed results for the English wheat harvest. The yield has risen on average from 7.7 tonnes per hectare in 2004 to 7.9 tonnes per hectare this year, largely due to better climatic conditions at harvest. However, total tonnage for England is 13.8million, which is down from 14.4million tonnes last year.
