China Preparing For War

Guest The Relaxation Suite

If present trends continue, conflict is practically inevitable.

"China is preparing for conflict 'in every direction', the defence minister said on Wednesday in remarks that threaten to overshadow a visit to Beijing by his US counterpart next month. In the coming five years, our military will push forward preparations for military conflict in every strategic direction."

"China also announced this month that it was preparing to launch its own aircraft carrier next year in a signal that China is determined to punch its weight as a rising superpower. The news came a year earlier than many US defence analysts had predicted. China is also working on a "carrier-killing" ballistic missile that could sink US carriers from afar, fundamentally reordering the balance of power in a region that has been dominated by the US since the end of the Second World War."

The carrier-destroying missile will not be tolerated by the US.

So it's China v USA then.

Nope if you read the last chapter of Domain (James Herbert) he layed it all out on a plate 20 years ago, China nukes London and then you all get eaten by a load of horribly large mutant rats, its one of the main reasons we left

Domain was one of the best books I ever read as a kid. Gave me nightmares for weeks. Similar to "Threads".

Can't really blame them. It's the only way they are going to get the west to pay the money we owe them.

They should just invent a missile which destroys the carrier-destroying missile.

They could call it "A carrier-destroying missile-destroying missile" or a cdmdm.

Though they better hope those pesky chinesies don't usurp them with a cdmdmdm.

"A carrier-destroying missile-destroying missile"

It probably won't work as it'll be made in China anyway :P

Watch for calls for Democracy...

...in China that is.

They're playing with the idea. IIRC earlier this year a 2 star general published his thoughts about it about how it will come sometime soon. To everybody's surprise he wasnt a general who was just about to retire unlike our own cowardly whistleblowers. He is also very much alive and still working for the CCP.

Also how on earth do you sell it to the people? I mean democracy is approaching levels of Chinese corruption these days.

Problem is when the ruse of building empty cities fails, the Chinese Government will have millions of idle citizens on their hands in a world of economic drought.

In the end I don't think the CCP cares who it's people takes the fight to, as long as it isn't against them.

They're preparing for a larger than expected economic slowdown by the end of the year. Got to distract the masses.

The US and Russia had a standoff for decades without it escalating into direct conflict (though there were proxy battles, and Cuba was a close shave). At worst, the same thing will happen between the US and China. Historically, China has been the victim of attacks (notably from Japan). It is little suprise, therefore, that it now wants to use it's stronger economic postion to strengthen it's military power.

This does not mean that it's intentions are offensive. So far, it has even refrained from taking action over Taiwan, which it regards as Chinese terrritory. If the US has avoided conflict with China over Taiwan (and refrained from pursuing the Korean war to a conclusion) for over half a century, I do not see the US taking the offensive now that China is strengthening as a military power.

Nothing in the quoted Chinese statements indicate that it's intentions are anything more than defensive. The USA cannot do anything about that in military terms, and has no real reason to.

Why would the Chinese want that? 'Democracy' is just a a label to self justify whatever criminal acts a country thinks it can get away with. The vast majority of Chinese want to make money and screw the west and couldn't give a toss about western ideas.Even if they did have it, it wouldn't make any practical difference to the country's attitude.

The Yanks will probably have a viable defence with the rail gun technology (which will also work on our new aircraft carriers)

I meant the West calling for democracy in China....

.....as opposed to the Chinese calling for democracy in the West ;)

They already do except its more like a giant machine gun than a missile.
