Both of these start at the same time. Get the recorder going...

BBC1 8.30 Panorama: Carry on Banking!

Bonuses - have there really been any changes in the way these greedy bastards behave?

8.30 - 10.30 ITV Come Rain Come Shine. Drama

David Jason and Alison Steadman star as a Cockney couple with a property developer son whose empire starts to unravel under a mountain of debt...

Yum! Will set shiny new recorder thingy to watch later on shiny new telly (old one was nearly as old as me and Mr B]

Was hoping to be otherwise occupied tonight - daughter supposedly coming in from Haiti, but v. delayed en route to Paris, so she's missed her Eurostar, which is snow-chaos-ed anyway. God knows how and what time she's going to make it to London - and she's got one jumper, and no coat!

The David Jason one might - just might - hit home with more people than months of news items on the credit crunch... assuming it shows what is actually going on.

David Jason is one of the very few 'A list' tv names. He guarantees a big audience.

Apparently the drama will contrast attitudes to credit, debt and saving between the generations.

Plenty to make all the overstretched and under threat sweaty palmed. Festive cheer then for those that have just loaded up their credit cards for the pagan tree festival

Quote from a banker 'What failure? ... the taxpayers' investment is making a profit .....' 'If you won on the bet you got to keep part of the profit ... if you lost, well nothing happened .. no wonder there was a risk culture.'

Same old, Same old, collapse due again in a few years.

Harsh but fair.

It's pretty crap so far. The acting is poor Jason exempt, storyline is bad too although the underlying idea and message seems very good. Assuming all goes pete tong in the end.

What happened in the first 40 minutes.

I have seen the child sell his ipod etc for a pittance (common amongst youths on the dole that is)

D Jason MEW.

And the £50k has now been lost via a bank transfer and receivership from a joint company of his son.

Cracking line was, "I'd have rather burned it and at least of got 5 minutes of warmth"

not so absorbing that half my mind can't be posting here. (40 mins behind on the program as well)

Naturally it deals with extremes for dramatic effect. A more subtle typical situation might have had more impact on the masses. Ken Loach needed on this one. edit: oh but then of course the masses wouldn't watch it

Odd really, ITV relies on advertising revenue hence getting people out to spend... It will be typical of ITV if they put out a drama telling people to save.

loving the juxtaposition with the interwoven wickes adverts for £200 kitchen taps and soft touch draws. At least tonight every twig jar lifestyle they're still using for all the ads seem more obviously 2007 than usual. Some bubble pricking potential in that at least.
