Aye, he was that funny-looking guy who sometimes reviewed the papers on breakfast TV.

Lovely bloke, I'm sure, but battered to within an inch of his life by the ugly stick.

Were his mother and father related or something?

RIP, Mr Howard.

Him and Brian Hanrahan. Sadly really, they were part of the furniture. You have to wonder if the next generation can match their quality.

Its funny how there always seem to be quite a number of famous deaths around Christmas and New Year.

RIP, both.

These always come in threes. Who is next ?

Please can we have Turnbull and Sian. Their chat in the morning is horrendous. Or maybe not to die - that is a little harsh. Can they please just - leave.

I once had lunch with him when I worked at The Times as a undergraduate placement. He ran the obituaries section. I was 19 and he took me out to lunch (this was 1995). He was very nice, but told me that I was too young to remember a Labour government so my argument that Labour would get a 100+ seat majority was wrong. Never got to tell him "I told you so". Saw him on the street a few years later but couldn't remember his name so didn't approach him.

Christ I sound old.
